With 2023 soon to be upon us, the coming of the Lunar New Year is not too far off either. While there will be plenty of treats and visiting to be done, one of the more common activities that families and friends can get up to is catching a film together. On that front, acclaimed action star Donnie Yen is bringing his directorial feature Sakra《天龙八部之乔峰传》to the big screens in Singapore on 16 January 2023, while dropping a new teaser trailer to whet the appetite.
The actor’s first directorial feature in almost 20 years, Sakra is an adaptation of famous Chinese novelist 金庸/Louis Cha’s best-selling wuxia classic, Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils 《天龙八部》. Donnie Yen stars as the powerful martial artist 乔峰/Qiao Feng – one of Louis Cha’s most beloved characters.
The story of Sakra unfolds in the Northern Song dynasty; Qiao Feng, the leader of the Beggars’ Sect, was a heroic and chivalrous man who was respected by the whole martial arts world until he was suddenly accused of being a Khitan. Thus begin his journey to find out about his origin and enemies.
Expect to witness adrenaline-pumping fighting sequences and dramatic moments throughout the film. ŚAKRA also stars Chen Yuqi, Cya Liu, Kara Wai, Wu Yue and Cheung Siu Fai, with special guest appearances by Lui Leung Wai and Tsui Siu Ming.
