Diablo 4 To Get Annual DLC Expansion

If you can’t get enough of playing Diablo 4, you’re in luck. The game is set to get a paid DLC expansion every year, which will be the first for a Diablo game, with its previous titles only getting one full DLC.

It has been an 11-year wait for Diablo 4, which surpassed US$666 million in sales alone five days after its release, and fans have not been disappointed. But the game’s manager, Rob Fergusson, has acknowledged that the game’s release time was too long.

“When you look back and realise that there were 11 years between D3 and D4, that feels like we didn’t live up to our players, our community, and what they deserve. That’s something we are rectifying in D4 with our seasons and our expansions.”

The main campaign takes 20-30 hours to finish, with a total of 150 hours of gameplay at the current level cap. With the expansions ahead, Diablo 4 continues to reward players with more content.

While there is no release date for Diablo 4 DLC content or price points yet, the expansions are in development and more information will be released soon. This model is reminiscent of Destiny 2, which could have inspired the decision to make annual expansions.

“We’ve got plans, we have storylines that go well into the future. We’ve got plans. We’re always leapfrogging our seasons, and leapfrogging our expansions, so it’s something we are going to do for a long time. We’re excited,” says Fergusson about Diablo 4, and there’s still plenty in store for eager fans.

However, for all of Fergusson’s enthusiasm, much of Diablo 4’s hype has waned since its release. In light of the many other titles hitting the market, it remains to be seen if Diablo is able to have lasting power. For many, the grind was too much past level 55, and gear drops weren’t able to garner the same level of enthusiasm to push a player to hit max level even as we are deep into Season 1, less so a full expansion.
