“I’ve always said everyone needs heroes and everyone deserves to see themselves in their heroes and I’m very grateful DC and Warner Bros. share this idea,” said writer Tom Taylor.

“Superman’s symbol has always stood for hope, for truth, and for justice. Today, that symbol represents something more. Today, more people can see themselves in the most powerful superhero in comics.”

The writer also took to Twitter to share the news.

Jon Kent is the son of Clark Kent and Lois Lane. Fans of the comic book series already know of Jay Nakamura, a hacktivist who idolizes Lois, as a new friend of Jon’s. As per the image, the two friends will become something more when they share their first kiss.

Jon now joins a large group of canon queer DC characters such as Tim Drake, Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy and Kate Kane, all of which have come out in both the comics and their respective TV series.

Superman: Son of Kal-El #5 will release in print and digitally on 9 November 2021.
