Cult Classic Platformer ‘Flashback’ Is Getting A Sequel After 30 Years

After 30 long years, Flashback, the cult classic action platformer by French studio Delphine Software International, is finally getting a sequel.

Publisher Microids announced via Twitter that the sequel, Flashback 2 is currently in production and is slated to release sometime in 2022 on consoles and PC.

The allure of Flashback has influenced a lot of modern games in terms of storytelling. Titles such as Oddworld: Abe’s Odyssey and, more recently, Little Nightmares, have done well to push the platform game genre forward with a great deal of tension and horror.

Flashback actually has two sequels in its name, a 1995 PC and PlayStation game titled Fade to Black and a 2013 remake from VectorCell with the same name. However, these two follow-ups didn’t do particularly well because it was missing the original game’s novelty and unique focus on its narratives.

While a remastered Flashback is available, it would still be extremely exciting for fans to see if the developers can match or even surpass the iconic original with modern visual effects.
