The wait is over! Counter-Strike 2 is officially out now and the best part? It is completely free for everyone on Steam.
Counter-Strike 2 is a major free update to Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO). This means anyone who has played CS:GO will have an update for the game. All progress and cosmetics will be transferred over and anything that a player has paid for shouldn’t be lost.
If a player has never played Counter-Strike: Global Offensive or have uninstalled it, they will have to download Counter-Strike 2 from the Steam page.
Despite it being an update, the game’s engine has been overhauled, making it look and feel entirely new and different. Some new game features include enhanced graphics, upgraded maps, improved smoke grenades and even the ability for players to refund their weapons if they accidentally purchased the wrong item.
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive was originally released in 2012. Despite being a decade old, it remains as one of the most popular PC games on Steam. News of Counter-Strike 2 was first leaked in March 2023.
