It’s no mean feat for a debut outing to sell five million copies worldwide, and surprise hit RPG Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is celebrating by teasing a free major update as a “thank you” to fans.

The news comes slightly more than five months after its initial launch, with developer Sandfall Interactive also sharing that the original soundtrack composed by Lorien Testard has surpassed – wait for it – 333 million streams since its release.
“We’ve been completely blown away by the constant support from so many of you – Your artwork, your stories, your cosplays and your endless creativity have been loved and appreciated by all of us,” said creative director Guillaume Broche in an official announcement post. “We could not be more grateful, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you.”
The forthcoming content update will introduce a new playable environment with “new enemy encounters and surprises to discover,” new late-game boss battles, new costumes for each member of the Expedition, and new text and UI game localisations into Czech, Ukrainian, Latin American Spanish, Turkish, Vietnamese, Thai and Indonesian, bringing the total number of supported languages to 19.
Sandfall Interactive is keeping story details close to its chest, but a single visual offers a few clues to the plot, including a sketch of what seems to be Verso riding atop Esquie (no spoilers here, though those who have completed Act 3 should be able to connect the dots):

“The response to our game has been nothing short of incredible,” concluded Broche. “We spent years working on our dream project, and to know it has resonated with fans around the world in such a powerful way is both wonderful and overwhelming.
“We hope the update we’re working on will act as a ‘thank you’ to those fans for their support – please be patient while our team work hard on bringing you something worth the wait.”
The new patch won’t be the only waiting game for fans, as Broche previously expressed that Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is just “one of the stories that we want to tell in this franchise”, indicating more to come in the larger universe.
