Get ready to score, as the Blue Lock anime returns for Season 2 this October. If you’ve gotten a kick out of watching the 24-episode first season, the second season is about to take things up a notch.
Based off Muneyuki Kaneshiro and Yūsuke Nomura’s manga of the same name, Blue Lock shot to fame in 2022 when Japan’s national team beat four-time reigning champions Germany 2-1, scoring a historic win. The manga is set in the wake of Japan’s defeat at the 2018 World Cup, Blue Lock follows Yoichi Isagi, who joins the Blue Lock Project — a harsh competitive training camp that gathers 300 of the nation’s brightest young strikers and pit them against one another — in hopes to become the best player in the world.
The anime previously adapted five arcs in the manga, and will continue into the Third Selection Arc, where the competition heats up. 35 players remain, but not for long — the top eleven players will then challenge the U-20 team.
An illustration from Nomura was released along with Season 2’s announcement, with a sketch of a smiling Isagi and a chibi Reo and Nagi accompanying it. The manga is currently ongoing with 256 chapters to date, so while waiting for Blue Lock Season 2 to air, why not catch up on the manga?
