Hideo Kojima Returns as Hideyoshi Oshima in ‘Cyberpunk: Edgerunners’ Season 2

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2 has cast revered game director Hideo Kojima as Hideyoshi Oshima, a role that sees him reprising his cameo appearance from the game.

CD Projekt Red announced the news via its social media pages, stating that Kojima will be playing the “famous braindance director who was at Cobalt Plaza in Cyberpunk 2077“, with the director himself taking to social media to respond to the announcement and share his excitement. It also seems that Kojima’s role as Oshima will be much larger in Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2 compared to his cameo in the game.

Fans of the game will no doubt remember Kojima’s cameo appearance as Hideyoshi Oshima, a character players could encounter at a bar while exploring Arasaka’s Konpeki Plaza in the prologue section of the game. That isn’t the only Kojima-related easter egg in the game, however, as players will also be able to find a reference to the BB from his Death Stranding franchise in a later side mission titled “I Fought the Law”.

“Weak, a washed-up cyberpunk legend, is now forced to live without chrome as he searches for a sense of purpose in a world that’s passed him by,” reads the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2’s synopsis on its website. “Meanwhile, the deadly nomad D sets out on a path to revenge that brings him close to corpo secrets never meant to be found. Across this ten-episode standalone series, uncover a story of family, obsession, legacy – and how your lens reflects the stories of the people around you.”

Kai Ikarashi will return to direct Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, alongside lead designer Kanno Ichigo and showrunner, story writer, and producer Bartosz Sztybor. The series will comprise ten episodes and is set to launch on Netflix on 20 October 2026.
