‘The Beekeeper 2’ Trailer Creates Buzz With Machine Gun & Flamethrower Action

There’s a hive to protect, and Jason Statham’s super-assassin Adam Clay is back on the job. Amazon MGM Studios has dropped the first trailer for Buzzkeeper 2, one of the star’s buzziest films in recent years, which pits the character against his own brethren as the Beekeepers organisation seeks to get control of the U.S. government.

In it, Clay is told that he’s the “only one who can stop them and hops into a 1969 Dodge Super Bee “fully loaded with stinger” to mow down his enemies with a minigun, before using a flamethrower later on. The action is pretty much what fans expect from standard Statham fare, alongside bee references and wisecracks, all set against Metallica’s “For Whom the Bell Tolls”.

The official synopsis reads, “Pulled back into the fight when the Beekeeper organisation goes rogue and sets its sights on controlling the government, Clay must take on the very group that made him”.

Also reprising their roles are Jeremy Irons and Emmy Raver-Lampman as Wallace Westwyld and Agent Verona Parker, while series newcomers include Pom Klementieff (Guardians of the Galaxy), WWE alumnus Adam Copeland, and Yara Shahidi (Grown-ish). Timo Tjahjanto (Nobody 2) is directing the pic, taking over the reins from David Ayer, based on a screenplay by original scribe Kurt Wimmer and Zak Penn. Ayer,  Jonathan Glickman, Thom Zadra, Alexandra Loewy and Rachael Cole will executive produce.

Released in 2024, The Beekeeper follows a retired government assassin who sets out for revenge after his kind-hearted landlady falls victim to a phishing scam and fights his way up the chain of command. It became a surprise box-office hit, grossing US$162.6 million worldwide against a US$40 million budget, with the follow-up slated to hit theatres on 15 January 2027. In the summer of that year, Statham is set to debut Jason Statham Stole My Bike, which will portray him as, well, himself.
