Ahead of The Apothecary Diaries: The Late Lady’s Treasure’s release in Japan on 11 December, the anime film has received its fourth character trailer, shining the spotlight on two of its original characters – Ruòqíng and Yinshan.
As seen in a brief 30-second teaser, Ruòqíng was a mid-rank consort who passed away in the inner palace five years before the events of the film, while Yinshan once served as Ruòqíng’s head maid. Miyuki Sawashiro (Lupin the Third: The Blood Spray of Goemon Ishikawa) and Ai Mikami (Viral Hit) will serve as the voices behind Ruòqíng and Yinshan, respectively.
Based on the original light novels by Hyūga and illustrator Touko Shino, the historical drama series started as a web novel in 2011 and has received two manga adaptations by Square Enix and Shogakukan. The anime adaptation debuted with its first season in October 2023, with its second season launching in January 2025. The Apothecary Diaries: The Late Lady’s Treasure will also mark the first movie in the franchise and follows the recent release of the anime adaptation’s third season.
Norihiro Naganuma, who directed the anime, will return to helm its feature film at TOHO Animation Studio, with the movie based on a concept from series creator Natsu Hyuuga.

“The curtains rise on a new mystery surrounding a secret treasure hidden in a city on the water. The emperor gives Jinshi an order. He must grant the final wish of a concubine who passed away five years ago by returning her to her homeland,” reads the film’s synopsis. “In order to return her to her family, Jinshi examines the remains, only to discover that they’re in pristine condition. She’s beautiful, as if she were still alive. To solve the mystery of the remains, Jinshi drags Maomao along on a journey to Binan-shu, the southern province ruled by the Bi clan.”
The Apothecary Diaries: The Late Lady’s Treasure is scheduled for launch in Japan on 11 December 2026, with the film’s worldwide release to be announced at a later date.
