Kept you waiting, huh? Hideo Kojima’s long-awaited return to action-espionage has finally found the man at the centre of its next mission, with It and Nosferatu star Bill Skarsgård officially cast as the lead of Physint.
Kojima announced the casting during Xbox’s Tokyo Game Show 2026 broadcast, confirming that Skarsgård will portray the Xbox game’s currently unnamed protagonist. He joins previously announced cast members Charlee Fraser, Don Lee and Minami Hamabe, with more casting announcements expected as production continues.
Skarsgård’s involvement also brings another Hollywood name into Kojima’s increasingly star-studded catalogue of games. Previous collaborations have included Kiefer Sutherland in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, Norman Reedus, Mads Mikkelsen and Léa Seydoux in Death Stranding, and Elle Fanning in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach.
“I’m delighted to confirm the lead role for Physint will be Bill Skarsgård,” Kojima said. “We are both longtime fans of each other’s work, and we’ve decided to embark on this new adventure together. The costume fittings, scans, and camera tests we conducted with Bill and Charlee earlier this year gave me tremendous confidence in the direction of the project.”
Alongside the casting reveal came a new Physint poster featuring Skarsgård and Fraser, accompanied by the ominous tagline, “The Next Cold War Begins.” Little else has been revealed about the story so far. Positioned as a spiritual successor to Metal Gear Solid, Physint marks Kojima’s return to the action-espionage genre he helped define.
Physint is one of two major projects currently moving forward under Kojima Productions. Horror game OD – KNOCK, starring Sophia Lillis and Hunter Schafer, has resumed filming. Further details on that project will be shared as development progresses.
Plenty about Physint remains classified for now, from Skarsgård’s character to whatever exactly is brewing behind that “Next Cold War” tagline. Still, Kojima’s return to action-espionage has its leading man, and after decades spent sending players on increasingly strange missions, he clearly isn’t finished keeping everyone guessing.
