Defending Korra is so challenging that it can be a full-time job, and the full trailer for Avatar: Seven Havens does little to change that. Following a brief look at the upcoming post-apocalyptic world and an admittedly interesting premise where the Avatar is associated with the bringer of evil rather than the world’s saviour, Paramount‘s latest clip seems to be drifting away from established lore.
While it was previously confirmed that the series will serve as a sequel to The Legend of Korra, Nickelodeon and its Avatar Studios, led by creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, have kept the specific timeline under wraps until now. Speaking to Polygon, producer Sehaj Sethi revealed that the show is set about 225 years after the Last Airbender follow-up, which feels at odds with the the Avatar cycle that came before — the gap between each generation was never that long, even considering the 100-year limbo in the original title, so what’s up? Then, there’s a whole plot about Korra dooming the world during her reign, putting more distance between her and franchise legacy, and hopefully, all these questions will be answers in its 26-episode run.
“Set in a world shattered by a devastating cataclysm, Avatar: Seven Havens follows Pavi, a young Earthbender who discovers she’s the new Avatar after Korra, only to find that in this dangerous era, that title marks her as humanity’s destroyer, not its saviour. Hunted by both human and spirit enemies, Pavi and her long-lost twin Nisha must uncover their mysterious origins and save the Seven Havens before civilisation’s last strongholds collapse,” reads the official logline.
DiMartino and Konietzko return to helm and executive produce the forthcoming outing, which has already been greenlit for a second season. The voice cast includes Saheli Khan as Pavi, Aishu Devan as Nisha, Akshay Khanna as Karthik, Major Curda as Jae, Sakina Jaffrey as Agam, Darren Barnet as Daemin, Dianne Doan as Zi, and Dee Bradley Baker as Geet and Ruhi.
The new entry will debut on 9 October on Paramount+ with the first episodes of the first season (or Book 1), followed by three more episodes every Friday through 30 October.
