Naughty Dog’s next major gaming IP, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, has hit a major milestone, as the studio has now wrapped up the game’s performance capture, meaning it’s one step closer to launch.
Announced via a social media post, Naughty Dog confirmed that it has concluded the “cinematic shoot” for Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, with an accompanying image of lead actress Tati Gabrielle, who plays bounty hunter protagonist Jordan A. Mun in the game, decked out in a mocap suit alongside a futuristic foam pistol.
With this announcement, the game has now completed one of the most time-consuming aspects of game development, which means the team can now focus all their efforts on building up the game, and while the title still doesn’t have a firm release window, hitting such a major milestone is still great news for fans eagerly waiting for the next game from the studio since 2020’s The Last of Us Part 2.
Announced in 2024 during The Game Awards, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet marks a brand-new sci-fi IP from the studio and centres around a bounty hunter who gets stranded on Sempiria, a distant planet which went dark hundreds of years prior. With no communications and no help arriving, she must survive the planet’s dangers on a quest to become the first person to leave its orbit in 600 years.
While not much is known about the game, with only a brief snippet of gameplay seen in the trailer of Jordan facing off against some sort of robot, Naughty Dog had previously teased that the title would be not just the most ambitious and expansive game it has ever made, but also the most expensive one too.
That being said, now that the studio has wrapped up performance capture, it’s entirely likely that Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet could launch as early as 2027, and with an upcoming PlayStation State of Play set for 3 September, Naughty Dog could very well unveil more details or even a proper gameplay trailer, but fans will just have to wait and see.
