Electronic Arts’ multiplayer shooter Battlefield 6 is fueling up its engines for a Top Gun: Maverick collaboration on 18 August, bringing two new fighter jets, additional gameplay modes, and the return of an iconic map from the franchise’s past.
As revealed via a community update, players would be able to take to the skies in two new jets – the F-74A Seacat and F/A-81F Super Spectre – and, best of all, they can engage in combined-arms warfare in a familiar location thanks to the return of Wake Island, the iconic map seen in nearly every game in the franchise since 2002’s Battlefield 1942.
Players will also be able to engage in what seem to be two new aircraft-focused modes, Carrier Assault and Fighter Sweep. The former will comprise two teams fighting to destroy an aircraft carrier, with matches tasking players to capture zones and push forward towards a final objective within the vessel, and the latter will be a Gauntlet mission within Battlefield REDSEC where players take down fighter jets to destroy stockpiles to build their team’s score.
Rounding off the new content is the Interdictor, a new sniper rifle, and the USS Grant POI for Fort Lyndon in the Battle Royale mode, a Crashed Carrier will feature higher-value loot than standard POIs and will be tagged as a High Value Zone for the first few weeks after launch to draw squads to the new location.
An accompanying cinematic trailer for the collaboration also showcased the return of three familiar faces in digital form, Lt. Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw, Lt. Robert “Bob” Floyd, and Adm. Solomon “Warlock” Bates from the 2022 movie, modelled after the characters played by Miles Teller, Lewis Pullman, and Charles Parnell, respectively.
The Battlefield 6 Top Gun collaboration will kick off on 18 August 2026 and will coincide with a free access period for the game that will run through 25 August.
