Universal Pictures is bringing back more familiar faces for its upcoming The Mummy sequel, with Kevin J. O’Connor and Oded Fehr, who played Beni Gabor and Ardeth Bay, respectively, reprising their roles alongside Brendan Fraser’s Rick O’Connell, Rachel Weisz’s Evelyn Carnahan, and John Hannah’s Jonathan Carnahan.
As reported by Deadline, the pair have inked a deal to join the sequel, with Young Sherlock’s Numan Acar also joining the cast, albeit in an unannounced role. O’Connor and Fehr both appeared in the original 1999 The Mummy film, the former as Rick’s French Foreign Legion comrade turned conman and servant of the resurrected Egyptian high priest Imhotep (Arnold Vosloo), and the latter as the leader of the secret society of elite warriors, the Medjai.
While Fehr would go on to reprise his role as Ardeth Bay in the 2001 sequel, The Mummy Returns, O’Connor’s character Beni would suffer a well-deserved death at the end of the first film, so it remains to be seen how the upcoming sequel will bring him back – perhaps as some sort of mummified creature, or just in a flashback.
While plot details on The Mummy are being kept under wraps, the sequel is directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett of Radio Silence, with its script written by Orphan: First Kill’s David Coggeshall. Acar isn’t the only newcomer to the franchise either, as it was recently announced that Michael Johnston, the breakout star of the 2026 horror sensation Obsession, will join the film in an undisclosed role.
Based on a loose remake of the 1932 film of the same name that was released as part of the Universal Monsters franchise, 1999’s The Mummy followed Rick as he teams up with Evelyn and travels to Hamunaptra, the City of the Dead, accidentally awakening Imhotep, a cursed high priest with supernatural powers, in the process. The film would spawn two sequels and a prequel titled The Scorpion King, alongside a 2017 reboot headlined by Tom Cruise.
The fourth instalment of The Mummy will now continue the adventures of its core group of characters when it launches on 15 October 2027.
