As reported by Deadline, Tatro’s role as the hyper-intelligent telepathic ape has now been confirmed, although the series itself has yet to be officially greenlit by HBO. The DC Crime series will be similar to a true-crime docuseries hosted by Jimmy Olsen, who was portrayed by Skyler Gisondo in 2025’s Superman. The series is set to focus on different supervillains across the DC universe, with Season 1 centred on Gorilla Grodd.

Created in 1959 by John Broome and Carmine Infantino, Gorilla Grodd is a highly intelligent primate who gains psychic powers and super strength when he comes into contact with an alien spaceship and first appeared in DC Comics’ The Flash #106 in 1959, where he has since become well known for his battles with The Flash. The villain has also appeared on-screen in a number of TV shows, including the CW’s 2014 live-action series The Flash and 2004’s Justice League: Unlimited.

The character will now be portrayed by Tatro, the creator and star of the YouTube channel LifeAccordingToJimmy, where he has written, produced, and directed video sketches since 2011. In terms of on-screen appearances, Tatro has also starred in films like 2013’s Grown Ups 2, 2014’s 22 Jump Street, and 2019’s Stuber.

DC Crime will be helmed by Tony Yacenda and Dan Perrault, who also serve as the series’s writers and executive producers, and follows their previous work in the true crime genre, 2017’s Netflix mockumentary series American Vandal. DC heads James Gunn and Peter Safran are also attached to the project as executive producers, with DC Studios’ Galen Vaisman (Superman, Blue Beetle) overseeing production.
