New Line has found the faces of the actors taking over the roles of Ed and Lorraine Warren in the upcoming horror prequel, The Conjuring: First Communion, with Garrett Wareing (The Long Walk) and Amanda Fix (Orphan Black: Echoes) taking over the roles from Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga.

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the pair will fill the shoes of the original duo as the film is set years before 2013’s Conjuring. Wilson and Farmiga, who portrayed the adult versions of the Warrens across all four The Conjuring films and their various spin-offs spanning the Annabelle and The Nun franchises, both retired from their roles following 2025’s Conjuring: Last Rites. The Conjuring: First Communion has also received its official release date of 10 September 2027.
Directed by Rodrigue Huart (Transylvanie, Réel), The Conjuring: First Communion will focus on the early years of the paranormal investigators, and while details about its plot remain under wraps for now, the prequel will be written by franchise veterans Richard Naing and Ian Goldberg, who co-wrote Conjuring: Last Rites and 2023’s The Nun II.
Based on the real-life paranormal investigator duo and their prominent cases of alleged hauntings from 1970 to 1986, the franchise stands as one of the highest-grossing horror series ever, with US$2.7 billion to date across nine films and numerous spin-offs. Last Rites, the latest entry in the series centred on the Smurl haunting in Pennsylvania, collected a US$187 million global haul in its first weekend of release, setting a new milestone for the franchise.

Apart from the upcoming prequel, The Conjuring will also be heading to the small screen, with a HBO series currently in development with Nancy Won (Jessica Jones) serving as writer, executive producer, and showrunner. The series will also see WandaVision’s Peter Cameron and Cameron Squires serving as its scriptwriters, alongside Peter Safran returning as executive producer.
