Next ‘Longlegs’ Film Set For 2028 With Nicolas Cage Returning

Following a successful run at the box office, Paramount Pictures is perpetuating the agenda that a Longlegs franchise has, well, legs. The studio has picked up the rights to a new film set in the same universe, which is due to bow on 14 January 2028.

Original star Nicolas Cage will re-team with filmmaker Osgood Perkins, who returns to write and direct the project. While no other details, including story specifics and additional cast members, were announced, the yet-to-be-titled instalment is described as “something in the Longlegs universe” rather than a direct sequel (via The Hollywood Reporter). Cage also serves as producer, alongside Brian Kavanaugh Jones, Perkins, Chris Ferguson, and Dave Caplan.

The exact reason behind the move from indie outfit Neon to Paramount is unknown, but the news outlet reports that sources attributed it to an above-average budget, and the latter’s priority on horror films — its first two films for 2026, Primate and Scream 7, are both of the genre, with Passenger set to follow on 22 May.

Released in July 2024, Longlegs marks Perkins’ highest-grossing movie to date (US$128 million worldwide against a budget of less than US$10 million). It follows an FBI agent, played by Maika Monroe (The Guest), assigned to hunt down an occult-obsessed serial killer responsible for a string of family murders across Oregon. Dubbed Longlegs, the perpetrator is characterised by his uncanny ability to leave no trace of involvement at crime scenes.

The new Longlegs movie is slated for theatrical release on 14 January 2028.
