Alex Garland’s ‘Elden Ring’ Movie Rounds Off Cast, Sets March 2028 Release

The live-action adaptation of FromSoftware’s punishingly difficult RPG, Elden Ring, has made significant headway, as the film has now rounded off its cast ahead of its newly set release date of 3 March 2028.

Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the film has added Tom Burke (Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga), Havana Rose Liu (No Exit), Sonoya Mizuno (Ex Machina), Jonathan Pryce (The Two Popes), Ruby Cruz (For All Mankind), John Hodgkinson (Skyfall), Jefferson Hall (House of the Dragon), Emma Laird (28 Years Later), Peter Serafinowicz (Shaun of the Dead), and Nick Offerman (Parks and Recreation) to its cast, although specific character details have yet to be revealed.

The Elden Ring movie has also begun production, with sources stating that this will mark A24’s most ambitious project to date, with its budget well over US$100 million and with production comprising around 100 days of principal photography.

First announced in May 2025, the Elden Ring movie will be directed by Alex Garland (Civil War) and produced by A24 alongside Peter Rice, Andrew Macdonald, Allon Reich, Vince Gerardis, and George R. R. Martin, with the latter originally penning the story for the FromSoftware-developed 2022 video game. Other previously announced cast members of the film include Kit Connor (Warfare), Ben Whishaw (Spectre) and Cailee Spaeny (Alien: Romulus).

The original Elden Ring video game marked the first true open-world “Souls” game from FromSoftware, and centred on players exploring a realm known as the Lands Between to restore the titular Elden Ring, an artifact of immense power. The title would go on to receive much acclaim, snagging Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2022 and getting two pieces of post-launch content, a major expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree, in 2024, and a multiplayer spin-off, Elden Ring: Nightreign, in 2025. The title will also be heading to the Nintendo Switch 2 later this year with the Tarnished Edition.

The Elden Ring movie, on the other hand, is expected to launch on 3 March 2028.
