‘Darksiders 4’ Unites Four Horsemen, Continues Story Of First Game

The apocalypse is nigh, as Gunfire Games has announced its much-anticipated sequel, Darksiders 4, which is set to pick up where the original title left off and reunite all four horsemen.

Revealed during THQ Nordic’s 2025 showcase event via a minute-long teaser trailer, the upcoming game is set to reunite the four horsemen, War, Death, Fury, and Strife, which marks the first for the series.

Although the trailer doesn’t reveal much other than depicting the four together onscreen, the game’s website does offer a bit more gameplay information, describing the title as a “3rd person action adventure game featuring combat, traversal and puzzle solving in a lore-rich post-apocalyptic world”, where players engage in “fast-paced, visceral action blending melee, fluid traversal, and supernatural abilities” while exploring a landscape filled with “secrets, enemies, and mythic bosses”.

Darksiders (2010)

With all four horsemen now together, the game will also allow players to pick and choose their character, with each having their unique weapons and combat styles. According to the game’s Steam page, it will also support online co-op alongside a traditional single-player experience, although it’s not confirmed at this point if the game will feature splitscreen multiplayer.

In terms of its plot, no other details were revealed other than that it will pick up after the original 2010 title left off, which teased War’s reunion with his three horsemen kin after the Seventh Seal is shattered.

Darksiders III (2018)

This would also mark the first game that takes place following the events of the original title, as each of the three mainline games released thus far takes place within an interconnected timeline, beginning with the original Darksiders prologue mission, followed by the events of 2018’s Darksiders III, then 2012’s Darksiders II, and finally ending with the main bulk of the original’s story. A prequel spin-off, Darksiders Genesis, was released in 2019, which explored War and Strife’s journey prior to the first game.

With each title in the series focused on a separate horseman – except Darksiders Genesis, which featured dual protagonists – Darksiders 4 will mark the first game in the franchise to include all four together, and will hopefully follow in the Metroidvania RPG footsteps of its predecessors. The game doesn’t have a release window yet, but is open to wishlist on the PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
