Emmys 2025: HBO Max & Apple Score Record Nominations

It’s nomination season for the Emmy Awards, and a handful of historic victories are already in place for its 77th iteration, to be held on 15 September 2025. For starters, major streamers like HBO Max (now back to its original name after two years of rebranding), Netflix, and Apple have all scored more nominations than last year, with the Warner Bros. Discovery network receiving 142 nods.

The tally marks the most Emmy nominations HBO has ever gotten in a single year, beating its previous record of 140 in 2022. Disney is in second place with 128 nods across all of its platforms, including ABC, Disney+, FX, Hulu, and Nat Geo, while Netflix comes in at 121. Apple, in its best showing to date, nabbed 81 nominations, thanks to top performers Severance and The Studio.

Indeed, the former leads the pack with 27 noms for its second season, with the Seth Rogen-led Hollywood satire picking up the most comedy nods in a single year: 23, tying with Season 3 of The Bear in 2024. The third season of The White Lotus also landed 23 nods, trailing behind overall runner-up The Penguin, which contributed 24 nominations to HBO. As for Netflix, 13 of its haul came from one-take wonder Adolescence, 11 from Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, and 10 from Black Mirror.

Among performers, newcomer Owen Cooper continues to make a splash as the youngest ever actor in the limited series supporting actor category, with 77-year-old star Kathy Bates becoming the oldest woman nominated in the lead drama category for Matlock. Harrison Ford also scored his first nomination for his role in Shrinking.
