40 Most Anticipated Movies Of 2025

It’s a wrap for this year of cinema, and what a rush 2024 has been, giving us amazing films like Deadpool & Wolverine, Dune: Part Two, The Wild Robot, and so much more. As we look towards the future with hit after hit in our rearview, surely 2025 couldn’t possibly outmatch the great year we’ve had so far, could it?

Fortunately, 2025 is looking to be as stacked as ever, with massive blockbusters like Captain America: Brave New World, Mission Impossible – The Final Reckoning and Avatar: Fire and Ash, alongside live-action adaptations of beloved animated movies like Lilo & Stitch and How to Train Your Dragon.

Here’s everything 2025 has in store for us, in order of release date:


1. Wolf Man (Universal Pictures)

Release Date: 17 January 2025

Universal Pictures’ upcoming reboot of the 1941 classic The Wolf Man is set to be the next entry in the Universal Monsters franchise, joining the likes of 1999’s The Mummy and 2004’s Van Helsing.

Wolf Man follows family man Blake (Christopher Abbott), who travels to Oregon with his family after inheriting his childhood home following his estranged father’s mysterious disappearance. After being attacked by a werewolf during a full moon, they barricade themselves inside their house only for Blake to start transforming into a beast himself, endangering his family in the process.


2. Love Hurts (Universal Pictures)

Release Date: 7 February 2025

Marking the directorial debut of Jonathan Eusebio, Academy Award winner Ke Huy Quan (Everything Everywhere All at Once, The Goonies) takes centre stage as Marvin Gamble, a realtor with a violent past as a hitman, who gets hunted by none other than his brother, Knuckles Gamble, played by Daniel Wu (Into the Badlands).

Hailing from the producers of 2022’s Violent Night, Guy Danella, Kelly McCormick and David Leitch, and with the latter two also producing 2021’s Nobody, Love Hurts looks to embody the same violent yet comedic tone, with Quan channelling his inner Jackie Chan by turning everyday objects into deadly tools.


3. Captain America: Brave New World (Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures)

Release Date: 14 February 2025

Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson makes a return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), and this time, he’s taking up the mantle of Captain America, shield in hand. As the 35th film in the MCU and fourth in the Captain America series, Captain America: Brave New World follows the (ex) Falcon’s transition to the new Cap in the face of an international world-threatening incident.

Additional cast includes Harrison Ford (Indiana Jones) as Thaddeus Ross and Red Hulk, Danny Ramirez (The Gifted) as Joaquin Torres, Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad) as Sidewinder and Liv Tyler, who reprises her role as Betty Ross from 2008’s The Incredible Hulk.


4. The Gorge (Apple TV+)

Release Date: 14 February 2025

Directed by Scott Derrickson (Sinister, Doctor Strange) and written by Zach Dead (Fast X, The Tomorrow War), The Gorge is an upcoming survival action film starring Anya Taylor-Joy (The Queen’s Gambit, The Menu), Miles Teller (Whiplash, Fantastic Four) and Sigourney Weaver (Alien, Avatar).

The film follows the story of two elite snipers, who are tasked with the mysterious mission of guarding two sides of a deep gorge, nicknamed the “gateway to hell”, completely left in the dark of what lies beneath.


5. Snow White (Walt Disney Studios)

Release Date: 21 March 2025

Snow White is an upcoming musical fantasy film directed by Marc Webb (The Amazing Spider-Man) and a live-action reimagining of the 1937 animated film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

Starring Rachel Zegler (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes) as the titular princess and Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman, Fast & Furious) as the Evil Queen, alongside seven CGI dwarfs.


6. Alto Knights (Warner Bros. Pictures)

Release Date: 21 March 2025

Initially titled Wise Guys, Alto Knights is an upcoming biographical crime drama film directed by Barry Levinson (Rain Man), with the film reportedly in the works as early as the 1970s but was passed on by major studios over the decades, eventually landing on Warner Bros. Pictures in 2022.

Starring Robert De Niro (The Godfather Part II, Taxi Driver) in a dual role as Vito Genovese and Frank Costello, the film follows the competing Italian-American mob bosses and also stars Debra Messing (Will & Grace) as Bobbie Costello, Kathrine Narducci (The Sopranos) as Anna Genovese and Cosmo Jarvis (Shōgun) as Vincent Gigante.


7. A Minecraft Movie (Warner Bros. Pictures)

Release Date: 4 April 2025

Based on Mojang Studio’s massive video game sensation Minecraft, the live-action film adaptation A Minecraft Movie aims to bring its whimsical, block-building fun to the big screen, directed by Jared Hess (Nacho Libre, Gentlemen Broncos) and written by Chris Bowman and Hubbel Palmer (Masterminds).

Starring Jack Black (School of Rock, Kung Fu Panda), Jason Momoa (Aquaman, Fast X), Emma Myers (Wednesday), Danielle Brooks (Orange is the New Black) and Sebastian Eugene Hansen (Lisey’s Story), the film follows the group of misfits as they navigate the bizarre, cubic Overworld on their quest to get back home.


8. Mickey 17 (Warner Bros. Pictures)

Release Date: 18 April 2025

Not to be confused with a famous mouse with the same name, Mickey 17 is an upcoming science fiction black comedy film produced, directed and written by Bong Joon-ho (Parasite, Snowpiercer) based on the 2022 novel Mickey7 by Edward Ashton.

Starring Robert Pattinson (Tenet, The Batman), Naomi Ackie (Blink Twice), Steven Yeun (The Walking Dead), Toni Collette (Hereditary) and Mark Ruffalo (The Avengers), the film follows Mickey Barnes, an “expendable”, a disposable employee whose body is regenerated with a new iteration after death, who comes face to face with his 18th iteration after surviving an expedition to the ice world Niflheim.


9. Until Dawn (Sony Pictures)

Release Date: 25 April 2025

Based on the 2015 video game by Supermassive Games, Until Dawn is a live-action horror film adaptation directed by David F. Sandberg (Annabelle: Creation, Shazam!) and written by Gary Dauberman (The Nun, It Chapter Two).

Described as an R-rated love letter to the horror genre, the film stars Ella Rubin (The Girl from Plainville), Michael Cimino (Annabelle Comes Home), Ji-young Yoo, Odessa A’zion (Hellraiser), and Maia Mitchell (Hot Summer Nights), alongside Peter Stormare reprising his role as Dr. Alan J. Hill from the game.


10. Thunderbolts* (Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures)

Release Date: 2 May 2025

Villains and Anti-Heroes unite in Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts*, Bringing together Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), The Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), Red Guardian (David Harbour), U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen) and Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko) as a misfit team who goes on missions for the American government.

The film will mark the 36th entry in the MCU, and is directed by Jake Schreier (Robot & Frank, Paper Towns) and written by Eric Pearson (Thor: Ragnarok, Black Widow), Lee Sung Jin (Beef), and Joanna Calo (BoJack Horseman).


11. Final Destination: Bloodlines (Warner Bros. Pictures)

Release Date: 16 May 2025

After 14 long years, the Final Destination franchise is set to make its return and take more lives in increasingly graphic and insane ways with its sixth instalment, Final Destination: Bloodlines.

Directed by Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein, who were chosen from over 200 candidates, and produced by New Line Cinema, the film is described as a “re-imagining” of the franchise and will revolve around first responders like EMTs, firefighters and police officers. The film will star the late Tony Todd as William Bludworth, the actor’s final movie and hopefully, a fitting send-off to his horror legacy.


12. Lilo & Stitch (Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures)

Release Date: 23 May 2025

Directed by Dean Fleischer Camp (Marcel the Shell with Shoes On), Lilo & Stitch is a live-action/CGI remake of Disney’s 2002 animated film of the same name.

The film will star Maia Kealoha as Lilo Pelekai and Sydney Agudong as Nani Pelekai, alongside the original film’s writer-director Chris Sanders reprising his voice role as Stitch, with previous cast members Tia Carrere, Amy Hill, and Jason Scott Lee also returning.


13. Mission Impossible – The Final Reckoning (Paramount Pictures)

Release Date: 23 May 2025

Mission Impossible – The Final Reckoning, the direct sequel to 2023’s Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One and the eighth instalment in the long-running film series, is set to present Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt with his toughest mission yet.

Newcomers Hayley Atwell (Agent Carter) and Pom Klementieff (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2) join the returning cast of Ving Rhames as Luther Stickell, Ving Rhames as Luther Stickell, and Vanessa Kirby as Alanna Mitsopolis, in what would undoubtedly be the biggest film in the series to date, filled with its trademark action and Cruise’s insane stuntwork.


14. Karate Kid: Legends (Sony Pictures)

Release Date: 30 May 2025

Legends unite in Karate Kid: Legends, the upcoming sixth film in the franchise, bringing together Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio to reprise their roles as Mr. Han and Daniel LaRusso, from both the 2010 remake and original 1984 film respectively.

Set three years after the events of Cobra Kai’s final season, the film will introduce its new lead Li Fong, played by Ben Wang (American Born Chinese), and merges the original films, the 2010 re-imagining and Cobra Kai series into a single shared universe.


15. From the World of John Wick: Ballerina (Lionsgate)

Release Date: 6 June 2025

The John Wick franchise is set to receive another spin-off with Ballerina, a neo-noir action thriller film directed by Len Wiseman (Underworld, Total Recall) and written by Shay Hatten (Army of the Dead, Rebel Moon).

Set in between the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and John Wick: Chapter 4, the film follows Ana de Armas (Blade Runner 2049, Knives Out) as Eve Macarro, a ballerina-assassin who begins her training under the traditions of the Ruska Roma in order to avenge her father’s death.


16. Pixar’s Elio (Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures)

Release Date: 13 June 2025

Directed by Domee Shi (Turning Red) and Madeline Sharafian in her feature directorial debut, Elio is an animated science fiction adventure film by Pixar Animation Studios.

The film follows the adventures of eleven-year-old Elio Solis (Yonas Kibreab), a space and alien fanatic who is mistakenly identified as Earth’s leader when he’s beamed up to an interplanetary organization called the Communiverse, and must now form new bonds with alien lifeforms and navigate intergalactic crises.


17. How to Train Your Dragon (Universal Pictures)

Release Date: 13 June 2025

How to Train Your Dragon is not only the first live-action production from DreamWorks Animation but also its first remake, an adaptation of the 2010 animated film of the same name.

Written, co-produced, and directed by Dean DeBlois, who worked on the original trilogy, the film will follow the events of the first animated movie, and stars Mason Thames (The Black Phone) as Hiccup, Nico Parker (Dumbo) as Astrid, and Gerard Butler (300) as Stoick the Vast, reprising his role from the originals.


18. 28 Years Later (Sony Pictures)

Release Date: 20 June 2025

Produced and directed by Danny Boyle (127 Hours, Slumdog Millionaire), 28 Years Later is the third film in the 28 Days Later series, and the first of the new trilogy of sequels, with Alex Garland returning to write the script for each.

Shot on multiple iPhone 15s, the film follows the continuation of the Rage Virus, the cause of the outbreak in the original film. It stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Kick-Ass, Bullet Train), Jodie Comer (Free Guy), Ralph Fiennes (The Menu, Harry Potter) and Cillian Murphy reprising his role as Jim from the first film.


19. M3GAN 2.0 (Universal Pictures)

Release Date: 27 June 2025

The sequel to 2022’s M3GAN is set to make its gory return, with director Gerard Johnstone, and writer Akela Cooper, alongside producers Jason Blum and James Wan, all returning for its next chapter.

The film’s cast will also see familiar faces, with Allison Williams and Violet McGraw reprising their roles as Gemma and Cady respectively, together with Amie Donald as M3GAN, voiced by Jenna Davis. They are joined by newcomers Ivanna Sakhno (Pacific Rim Uprising) and Timm Sharp (Percy Jackson and the Olympians).


20. Jurassic World Rebirth (Universal Pictures)

Release Date: 2 July 2025

Prepare to walk amongst dinosaurs again in Jurassic World Rebirth, the standalone sequel to 2022’s Jurassic World Dominion, and the fourth instalment in the series.

Directed by Gareth Edwards (Godzilla, The Creator), the film will feature a brand new cast including Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow, Jojo Rabbit), Mahershala Ali (Moonlight, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse) and Jonathan Bailey (Wicked, Bridgerton).


21. Superman (Warner Bros. Pictures)

Release Date: 11 July 2025

As the first film in director James Gunn’s rebooted DC Universe, a lot is riding on Superman to kickstart a whole new generation for DC, and there’s no better way to begin than the Man of Steel himself.

Starring David Corenswet (The Politician, Hollywood) as the titular hero, the film follows Superman’s journey to reconcile his alien heritage with his human family, featuring familiar characters like Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan), Lex Luther (Nicholas Hoult) and Mister Terrific (Edi Gathegi), alongside the best of boys, Krypto the Superdog.


22. Untitled I Know What You Did Last Summer sequel (Sony Pictures)

Release Date: 18 July 2025

Classic slasher series I Know What You Did Last Summer makes a return next year, with a direct sequel to 1998’s I Still Know What You Did Last Summer directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Do Revenge).

Alongside returning cast members Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. reprising their roles as Julie James and Ray Bronson from the first two films, its cast will also include Madelyn Cline (Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery), Sarah Pidgeon (The Wilds) and Tyriq Withers (Tell Me Lies).


23. The Smurfs Movie (Paramount Pictures)

Release Date: 18 July 2025

Director Chris Miller (Shrek the Third, Puss in Boots) The Smurfs Movie is an upcoming animated musical fantasy film and reboot of the film series, co-directed by Matt Landon and written by Pam Brady.

The film will feature the voice cast of Rihanna as Smurfette, alongside Nick Offerman (Parks and Recreation), Natasha Lyonne (Russian Doll), JP Karliak (X-Men ’97) and Dan Levy (The Goldbergs).


24. The Fantastic Four: First Steps (Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures)

Release Date: 25 July 2025

Marking the second reboot of the series after 2015’s Fantastic Four, The Fantastic Four: First Steps is the 37th film in the MCU and will be directed by Matt Shakman (WandaVision).

Set in a 1960s-inspired retro-futuristic world, the team consisting of Mister Fantastic (Pedro Pascal), Invisible Woman (Vanessa Kirby), Human Torch (Joseph Quinn) and The Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) must defend Earth from Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and the Silver Surfer (Julia Garner).


25. The Bad Guys 2 (Universal Pictures)

Release Date: 1 August 2025

The Bad Guys 2 is an animated heist action comedy film sequel loosely based on the children’s book series of the same name by author Aaron Blabey. The film will see the return of director Pierre Perifel along with the voice cast from the first film like Sam Rockwell (Jojo Rabbit), stand-up comedian Marc Maron and Craig Robinson (Brooklyn Nine-Nine).

The film follows the Bad Guys, now newly minted as the Good Guys after the events of the first film, as they get pulled into one last job by the Bad Girls, fans and fellow criminals voiced by newcomers Danielle Brooks as Kitty Kat, Natasha Lyonne as Doom and Maria Bakalova as Pigtail.


26. The Naked Gun (Paramount Pictures)

Release Date: 1 August 2025

Legendary actor and comedian Leslie Nielsen’s The Naked Gun film series is about the receive a reboot, and in a surprising move, will star Liam Neeson (Taken, Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace), well-known for playing more serious roles.

The film is directed by The Lonely Island’s Akiva Schaffer, and sees Neeson’s Frank Drebin Jr starring alongside Pamela Anderson (Baywatch), Paul Walter Hauser (Inside Out 2) and Kevin Durand (X-Men Origins: Wolverine).


27. Freakier Friday Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures)

Release Date: 8 August 2025

A sequel to 2003’s Freaky Friday and the seventh film in the franchise, Freakier Friday is a fantasy comedy film directed by Nisha Ganatra (Late Night) and written by Jordan Weiss (Dollface).

The film will see a return of its cast such as Jamie Lee Curtis as Tess Coleman, Lindsay Lohan as Anna Coleman and Mark Harmon as Ryan, alongside newcomers Julia Butters as Harper Coleman and Manny Jacinto as Eric Davies.


28. Nobody 2 (Universal Pictures)

Release Date: 15 August 2025

Nobody 2, the action-thriller film sequel to the 2021 original, is set to bring Hutch Mansell (Bob Odenkirk) back for more violent action, this time being directed by Timo Tjahjanto (May the Devil Take You).

Alongside Odenkirk’s Hutch, the film will also see the return of Connie Nielsen’s Becca Mansell, RZA’s Harry Mansell Christopher Lloyd’s David Mansell, with newcomers such as Chris Pine and Mckenna Grace joining the cast as new characters.


29. Thread: An Insidious Tale (Sony Pictures)

Release Date: 29 August 2025

Thread: An Insidious Tale is an upcoming supernatural horror film and a spinoff of the Insidious franchise from Screen Gems, Blumhouse and James Wan’s Atomic Monster.

The sixth instalment of the series follows the story of a husband and wife, played by Kumail Nanjiani (Eternals) and Mandy Moore (This Is Us), who enlist the help of a spell to travel back in time and prevent the death of their daughter, only to be met with severe consequences.


30. The Conjuring: Last Rites (Warner Bros. Pictures)

Release Date: 5 September 2025

The Conjuring: Last Rites is a supernatural horror film and sequel to 2021’s The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It. The film will see the returning team of director Michael Chaves along with producers James Wan and Peter Safran.

Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga are set to reprise their roles as Ed and Lorraine Warren respectively, with Ben Hardy (X-Men: Apocalypse) and Mia Tomlinson (The Lost Pirate Kingdom) joining its cast.


31. The Bride! (Warner Bros. Pictures)

Release Date: 26 September 2025

The Bride! is a sci-fi musical monster film drawing inspiration from James Whale’s 1935 film Bride of Frankenstein, and will be written, directed and produced by Maggie Gyllenhaal (The Lost Daughter).

The film will star Jessie Buckley (Wild Rose) as Frankenstein’s bride, Christian Bale (The Dark Knight trilogy, American Psycho) as Frankenstein’s monster, Penélope Cruz (Murder on the Orient Express) as Myrna and Gyllenhaal’s husband Peter Sarsgaard (The Magnificent Seven, The Batman).


32. Saw XI (Starz Entertainment Corp.)

Release Date: 26 September 2025

The eleventh title in the long-running Saw series will see a return in 2025 with Kevin Greutert, who directed the sixth and seventh entries in the franchise returning. Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan who wrote entries four to seven, will return to provide the script for the movie.

Legendary actor Tobin Bell will return to reprise his iconic role as John Kramer, better known as Jigsaw, so fans can rest assured that the sequel will be filled with elaborate traps and copious amounts of gore.


33. Tron: Ares (Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures)

Release Date: 10 October 2025

As a standalone sequel to 2010’s Tron: Legacy and the third instalment in the franchise, Tron: Ares is directed by Joachim Rønning (Maleficent: Mistress of Evil) and will star Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club), Evan Peters (X-Men: Days of Future Past) and Greta Lee (Past Lives).

The film follows Leto’s Ares, a highly sophisticated program that is sent from the digital world to the real one on an important mission, marking the first contact between humans and AI.


34. Mortal Kombat 2 (Warner Bros. Pictures)

Release Date: 24 October 2025

Based on the fighting video game series by NetherRealm Studios and Midway Games, Mortal Kombat 2 is the sequel to the 2021 reboot and will see the return of director Simon McQuoid.

The film will see the return of the original cast of characters including Cole Young (Lewis Tan), Sonya Blade (Jessica McNamee), Jackson Briggs (Mehcad Brooks), Raiden (Tadanobu Asano), Liu Kang (Ludi Lin), Shang Tsung (Chin Han) and Scorpion (Hiroyuki Sanada). The sequel is set to add more recognisable characters to its line-up, such as Johnny Cage (Karl Urban), Kitana (Adeline Rudolph) and Jade (Tati Gabrielle).


35. Predator: Badlands (20th Century Studios)

Release Date: 7 November 2025

Marking the seventh film in the mainline Predator series and ninth in the overall franchise, Predator: Badlands will be directed by Dan Trachtenberg (10 Cloverfield Lane, Prey) and co-written by Trachtenberg and Patrick Aison.

The film will be set in the future and revolve around a Predator and two sisters, with Elle Fanning (Super 8Maleficent) playing a currently unannounced lead role.


36. The Running Man (Paramount Pictures)

Release Date: 21 November 2025

The 1987 dystopian action thriller film The Running Man will see a modern adaptation next year, headed by director Edgar Wright (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Shaun of the Dead) and writer Michael Bacall (21 Jump Street).

Based on the 1982 Stephen King novel of the same name, the film is set in the year 2025 and revolves around a game show where contestants are chased across the world by murderous hunters to win money. It stars Glen Powell (Top Gun: Maverick), Katy O’Brian (The Mandalorian) and Daniel Ezra (All American).


37. Wicked: For Good (Universal Pictures)

Release Date: 21 November 2025

As the second instalment of a two-part film adaptation of the stage musical of the same name, Wicked: For Good will continue the events of this year’s Wicked, with the returning team of director Jon M. Chu and writers Winnie Holzman and Dana Fox.

Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande will reprise their roles as Elphaba Thropp and Glinda Upland respectively, with the film featuring songs by composer Stephen Schwartz.


38. Zootopia 2 (Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures)

Release Date: 26 November 2025

Zootopia 2 is the sequel to the 2016 animated buddy cop comedy film and will see the return of directors Jared Bush and Byron Howard, alongside Encanto producer Yvett Merino.

Starring Ginnifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman reprising their roles as Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde respectively, the film follows the detectives as they go undercover in Marsh Market on the trail of Gary, a snake voiced by Ke Huy Quan.


39. Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 (Universal Pictures)

Release Date: 5 December 2025

Based on the series of horror games by developer Scott Cawthon, Blumhouse’s movie adaptation and sequel Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is set to ride on the success of the original 2023 film, bringing the horrific animatronics to life once again.

Actors Josh Hutcherson and Matthew Lillard are set to reprise their roles as Mike Schmidt and William Afton respectively, with the film also introducing the Toy animatronics, characters first seen in the second game of the series.


40. Avatar: Fire and Ash (20th Century Studios)

Release Date: 19 December 2025

Ending the year off with a bang is James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash, the third instalment in the film series and sequel to 2022’s Avatar: The Way of Water.

The film continues the tale of Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña) and their family, as they explore uncharted territories once again. Plot details are under wraps for now, but Cameron has previously hinted that the movie will be darker than its predecessors and that its story will be focused on Jake and Neytiri’s second son Lo’ak (Britain Dalton), who will also take over as the film’s narrator.
