2024 is coming to a close and boy, what a great year it has been for gaming, from multi-award-winning darling Astro Bot, to JRPG masterpieces Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Metaphor: ReFantazio, and not forgetting the amazing Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, coming in clutch to wrap up the year on a high note, we now look towards the future in anticipation of all the amazing experiences coming in 2025.
And from the looks of it, the future certainly seems bright, with firm release dates set for major titles such as Assassin’s Creed Shadows and Monster Hunter Wilds, alongside rough release windows (which hopefully are met) for massive games like Ghost of Yōtei and Mafia: The Old Country, making sure that the best is yet to come.
Here’s a rundown of our top 25 most anticipated games of 2025, in order of release date (alphabetically if it doesn’t have a firm date yet):
1. Dynasty Warriors Origins
Release Date: 17 January 2025
Musou fans rejoice! Omega Force’s Dynasty Warriors Origins aims to kick the year off into high gear, providing the signature 1 vs 1,000 gameplay the series is known for, this time taking advantage of current-generation hardware to deliver the action in a shiny coat of paint, so players can enter their inevitable confrontation with Lu Bu in crisp, HD visuals.
Dynasty Warriors Origins will be released on the PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
2. Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2
Release Date: 4 February 2025
Warhorse Studios’ Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 builds upon the foundations of the original open-world action role-playing game, continuing the journey of Henry the Blacksmith as he navigates the turmoil of a civil war. In addition to a gritty story, the series’ methodical direction-based melee combat also makes a return, along with life simulation systems such as managing sleep and food, and introducing ranged combat with crossbows and early forms of firearms.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 will be released on the PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
3. Civilization VII
Release Date: 12 February 2025
4X fans will undoubtedly recognise the Civilization franchise as one of the genre’s pioneers, and its seventh entry only serves to improve upon what fans know and love about the series. This time, Firaxis Games is offering up something completely new, allowing players to select their leaders and civilizations independently, offering levels of customisation unheard of in the franchise thus far.
Civilization VII will be released on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC.
4. Assassin’s Creed Shadows
Release Date: 14 February 2025
After a lengthy delay, it’ll soon be time to uphold the three tenets of the Creed once again with Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Shadows, a massive action RPG set in 16th-century Japan. Offering a choice of two protagonists, the samurai Yasuke and the shinobi Naoe, the game looks to cater towards both demographics of its fanbase, from those who enjoyed the stealth-focused nature of the original games to those who prefer the action-oriented style of its recent entries. One thing’s for sure, this is looking to be the biggest Assassin’s Creed game to date.

5. Avowed
Release Date: 18 February 2025
Set in the same universe as the 2015 RPG Pillars of Eternity, Obsidian Entertainment’s Avowed shifts genres away from the previous isometric real-time with pause format to an action RPG playable in both first and third-person perspectives. Taking place in the Living Lands of Eora, players take on the role of an envoy from the Aedyr Empire, investigating a mysterious plague known as the “Dream Scourge” while combating various foes with a mix of melee weapons, firearms and magical spells.
Avowed will be released on Xbox Series X|S and PC.
6. Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii
Release Date: 21 February 2025
Get ready to witness Goro Majima in a whole new light, as Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio’s Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii is sailing away from the crowded streets of Japan to the tropical archipelago of Hawaii, set across four different locations including Rich Island, Madlantis, Nele Island and Honolulu. Alongside the series’ staple beat ’em up combat system, players can now assemble their own pirate crew aboard their ship, the Goromaru, and engage in open sea combat with other pirates.
Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii will be released on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
7. Monster Hunter Wilds
Release Date: 28 February 2025
Venture to the Forbidden Lands in Capcom’s latest entry in its long-running action RPG series, Monster Hunter Wilds. Featuring different biomes that incorporate the brand-new weather system, players will track and fight new creatures using the 14 returning weapon types from 2018’s Monster Hunter: World, each with an expanded move set.
Monster Hunter Wilds will be released on the PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
8. Split Fiction
Release Date: 6 March 2025
Hailing from Hazelight Studios, masters of the co-op game genre and creators of 2021’s It Takes Two and 2018’s A Way Out, Split Fiction is a world-bending co-op action-adventure game set across two distinct worlds. Following the story of Mio and Zoe, two authors who get trapped in their respective science fiction and fantasy storys, players must work together across the two worlds in a variety of missions each with a unique but one-off gameplay mechanic.
Split Fiction will be released on the PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, featuring a “Friend’s Pass” system which allows players to invite their friends to play together for free.
9. The First Berserker: Khazan
Release Date: 25 March 2025
Based on Nexon’s Dungeon Fighter Online (DnF) universe, The First Berserker: Khazan is a hardcore action RPG soulslike that promises to offer equal parts punishment and achievement. Blending 3D cel-shaded graphics with brutal, gory combat against intense bosses, all set against the snowy mountains of the Pell Los Empire, following the tale of Great General Khazan as he embarks on a quest for vengeance.
The First Berserker: Khazan will be released on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
10. Killing Floor 3
Release Date: TBC March 2025
Face off against the Zeds hordes in Killing Floor 3, the latest instalment in the co-op action horror shooter franchise from developer Tripwire Interactive. As a member of the rebel group Nightfall, take on the role of a Specialist such as the Sharpshooter or Ninja and battle the Zeds alone or in a team of six, utilising an expansive arsenal while doling out copious amounts of violence and dismemberment with the series’ trademark M.E.A.T. System.
Killing Floor 3 will be released on the PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
11. Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves
Release Date: 21 April 2025
Marking the first entry in the Fatal Fury fighting game series in 26 years, SNK’s Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves builds upon the “Selective Potential Gear” (S.P.G.), “Just Defense” and “Hyper Defense” systems of 1999’s Garou: Mark of the Wolves, alongside introduction new moves in the form of its “Rev System”. In addition to the standard arcade mode, the game will also feature a single-player mode with RPG mechanics and progression.
Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves will be released on the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
12. Dying Light: The Beast
Release Date: Summer 2025
Techland’s Dying Light: The Beast is a standalone zombie-slaying adventure placing players in the shoes of Kyle Crane, the original protagonist of 2015’s Dying Light. After 13 years of being locked up and experimented on following the events of the first game, Crane has become embued with zombie DNA, allowing him to unleash beast-like power, which he can use alongside the series’ iconic parkour mechanics to get an edge over enemies. Just be wary of the dark though, as the true horrors are unleashed after the sun sets, and sometimes, the only option left is to run.

13. Mafia: The Old Country
Release Date: Summer 2025
Hangar 13’s highly-anticipated next entry in the Mafia franchise, Mafia: The Old Country, takes the series back to the 1900s, delivering a linear, narrative-driven experience closer to the original two games than 2016’s Mafia III. As a prequel to the first game, players take on the role of protagonist Enzo Favara who journeys from a childhood of indentured labor in Sicily’s sulfur mines to joining the Torrisi crime family.
Mafia: The Old Country will be released on the PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
14. Double Dragon Revive
Release Date: 23 October 2025
As its name implies, YUKE’S’ Double Dragon Revive aims to revitalise the series that defined the classic belt-scroll action genre with modern 3D graphics and gameplay systems. Taking on the roles of returning characters the Lee brothers, players can dive into its revamped combat system that promises to require more strategy than simply button-mashing, all supplemented by flashy over-the-top special moves.

15. Borderlands 4
Release Date: TBC 2025
Vault Hunters unite! Borderlands is back for its fourth entry, bringing the series to new heights with more intense action and of course, billions of firearms to satisfy even the most hardcore gun-nut. With four new Vault Hunters, each with their own unique action skills and branching skill trees, face off against the ruthless Timekeeper and blast through hordes of beasts, mechs and bandits, all playable solo or in co-op with up to three other players.
Borderlands 4 will be released on the PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
16. Crimson Desert
Release Date: TBC 2025
Pearl Abyss, the studio behind the hit fantasy massively multiplayer online role-playing game Black Desert Online, is embarking on its first open-world single-player adventure with Crimson Desert, and it looks massive. Set in a medieval fantasy world, on a continent called Pywel, players follow mercenary protagonist Kliff in his struggle for survival in a game that seems to mirror Dragon’s Dogma and The Witcher in the best way possible.
Crimson Desert will be released on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
17. Chronos: The New Dawn
Release Date: TBC 2025
Bloober Team’s Chronos: The New Dawn looks to embody equal parts Dead Space and Bioshock, coupling nightmarish creatures with a retro-futurist aesthetic and time travel, because why not? As a Traveller, players will jump between the desolate post-apocalyptic wastelands of the future and 1980s-era Poland, on a mission to extract the essences of key personnel in the past to bring them into the future, all while battling dangers at every turn.
Chronos: The New Dawn will be released on the PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
18. Death Stranding 2: On the Beach
Release Date: TBC 2025
Kojima Productions is bringing back the weirdness with Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, which will see the return of Sam Porter Bridges, and feature the same walking-simulator-esque gameplay systems from the original. From its trailer, fans can certainly expect more strangeness, a star-studded cast, and of course, tons of walking.
Death Stranding 2: On the Beach will be released on the PS5.
19. Doom: The Dark Ages
Release Date: TBC 2025
Rip and tear, until it is done. The Doom Slayer is set to return in id Software’s Doom: The Dark Ages, a prequel to the 2016 Doom reboot that explores the rise of its iconic protagonist. Much in line with its title, the game seems to go all-in on the medieval, gothic aesthetic, providing players with plenty of fantastical weapons to rip monsters apart, including a new chainsaw/shield combination that can be thrown Captain America style to slice through enemies from afar.
Doom: The Dark Ages will be released on the PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
20. Gears of War: E-Day
Release Date: TBC 2025
If one super-soldier origin story wasn’t enough, here’s another one from developer The Coalition, this time exploring the origins of the Locust Horde in Gears of War: E-Day, which will follow all-around tough guys Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago as they survive the events of Emergence Day, 14 years before the events of the original 2006 Gears of War. The game will provide a more inexperienced and vulnerable take on its two original characters, alongside featuring the origins of its now-iconic signature Lancer Assault Rifle.
Gears of War: E-Day will be released on the Xbox Series X|S and PC.
21. GTA VI
Release Date: TBC 2025
Now here’s one that needs no introduction, and to be honest, it’s doubtful that we’ll see this in 2025 but nonetheless, it’s too big not to mention. Rockstar Games GTA VI is set to be the studio’s biggest title yet, set in the fictional state of Leonida and following the criminal duo of Lucia and her currently unnamed male partner as they carry out daring heists, Bonnie and Clyde style.
GTA VI will be released on the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
22. Ghost of Yōtei
Release Date: TBC 2025
Ghost of Yōtei is the upcoming sequel to Sucker Punch’s amazing 2020 action-adventure game Ghost of Tsushima. Set in 1603, more than 300 years after the events of the first game, players take on the role of a new Ghost, Atsu, as she ventures across the lands of Ezo surrounding Mount Yōtei, featuring new gameplay mechanics, weapons, and a gripping tale of underdog vengeance.
Ghost of Yōtei will be released on the PS5.
23. Little Nightmares III
Release Date: TBC 2025
Little Nightmares III looks to expand the puzzle-platform horror adventure franchise, this time with developer Supermassive Games taking the helm. A first for the series, the game will feature online co-op alongside solo play with an AI companion, placing players in the shoes of protagonists Low and Alone as they the desolate and nightmarish realm of the Nowhere, encountering all manner of grotesque beasts, environmental dangers and head-scratching puzzles along the way.
Little Nightmares III will be released on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC.
24. Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater
Release Date: TBC 2025
Naked Snake returns in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, Konami’s remake of the 2004 action-adventure stealth video game Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. Being the first mainline entry in the series since 2015’s Metal Gear Solid V (no, Metal Gear Survive, you don’t count), expectations are high, especially considering how well-regarded the original title was, a fact the team are aware of, considering the efforts made to faithfully recreate the original’s gameplay with modern graphics while maintaining its underlying structure.
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater will be released on the PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
25. The Outer Worlds 2
Release Date: TBC 2025
Obsidian Entertainment’s sci-fi RPG The Outer Worlds is gearing up for a sequel, and it promises to be bigger, better and more ridiculous. Juggling an intricate storyline with branching story paths and multiple decisions to make, an increased focus on combat, plus an expanded arsenal of melee weapons and firearms, The Outer Worlds 2 looks set to bring more bombastic action and deadpan humour in a massive, spacefaring adventure.
