2.5D Action Adventure Game ‘Kong: Survivor Instinct’ Branches Into MonsterVerse This Fall

Legendary Entertainment’s MonsterVerse, a shared universe featuring Godzilla and other sister characters owned by Toho, as well as King Kong, will make its way into the gaming space later this year. Kong: Survivor Instinct has been announced for Fall 2024, with a new trailer offering a first look at gameplay and its setting.

Taking place after the events of Godzilla vs. Kong, the title from developer 7Levels follows a father desperately searching for his missing daughter as Titans like Kong and Abaddon wage war on one another and wreck havoc on the city. According to Sam Rappaport, vice-president of Interactive Media at Legendary, stepping into the shoes of a civilian “adds a layer of realism and emotional depth that we hope will resonate with our fans.”

The game’s official description reads, “Kong: Survivor Instinct is a 2.5D action-adventure game that combines realistic platforming, challenging combat, and metroidvania-style exploration during a thrilling quest of survival worthy of the MonsterVerse franchise.”

Other key features include scavenging for resources, weapons, and tools to solve environmental puzzles, as well as the return of the Hyenas, the mercenary group led by Alan Jonah in Godzilla: King of the Monsters.

An exact release date hasn’t been firmed up, but Kong: Survivor Instinct is due out on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC sometime this fall. It will mark Legendary Entertainment’s debut in bringing its kaiju cinematic universe over to the world of video games, with more crossover projects currently in the pipeline.
