Technology has come a long way from the early days of gaming, from the SNES and GameCube to today’s PlayStation and Xbox. Several games have also gotten a remaster, such as 2019’s Resident Evil 2 and 2013’s The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker.

Much like these games, Konami’s Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes has also gotten a 4K remaster, though unlike most other remastered games, this one was done purely using AI. More specifically, it was created using ERSGAN (Enhanced Super-Resolution Generative Adversarial Networks), with a texture pack made from Reddit user tophergopher1.
The programme took the game’s old textures and artificially upscaled it, cleaning it the way it best saw fit. For a game that is 15-years-old, the results are frankly astounding.
You can see so for yourself below.
With such a programme making it even easier for games to get a quick remaster, it will be interesting to see what other games will be getting unofficial remasters such as the one Metal Gear Solid did.
