Ubisoft Reportedly Sets Sail For ‘Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag’ Remake

Exciting news for fans of the Assassin’s Creed franchise: According to sources at Kotaku, Ubisoft will be charting a course towards an exhilarating remake of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. In addition, Ubisoft Singapore, known for their expertise in developing the Assassin’s Creed franchise’s impressive ocean technology, will be playing a significant role in revitalising the Caribbean-centered sailing experience.

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag Remake

Originally released in 2013, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag quickly carved its name into the annals of gaming history. Anchored in the heart of the Golden Age of Piracy, the game transported players to a world teeming with danger and intrigue, as they assumed the role of the captivating Edward Kenway. Renowned for its sprawling open world, gripping naval battles, and an engrossing storyline, Black Flag stole the hearts of both die-hard Assassin’s Creed enthusiasts and fresh-faced adventurers alike.

The extent to which the gameplay and systems will be adapted to align with the expansive open-world RPG format seen in recent Assassin’s Creed titles like Odyssey and Valhalla remains uncertain at this point. However, considering the enduring popularity of Black Flag‘s ship-to-ship combat, there is immense potential to transform the new version of the game into something far more ambitious than a simple “next-gen” remaster for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Simultaneously, Ubisoft continues to grapple with the long-delayed release of Skull and Bones, their ambitious pirate-themed live-service game. Originally conceived as an expansion for Black Flag, the project has since undergone numerous transformations and has been plagued by a number of challenges. It has faced multiple delays and currently lacks a confirmed launch date, supposedly set some time in the 2023 to 2024 fiscal year.

In the meantime, fans of Assassin’s Creed can look forward to Assassin’s Creed Mirage, which will be launching on 12 October 2023 and hark back to classic gameplay from the series.
