‘Tokyo Xtreme Racer’ Set To Hit The Streets In 2025

Buckle up, racing fans — after an 18-year hiatus, the Tokyo Xtreme Racer series is making a roaring comeback, and it’s heading straight for Steam. Game developer Genki has confirmed that a brand-new entry in the cult-favourite street racing franchise is currently in the works, bringing back the high-octane action that fans have been craving since the early 2000s.

This exciting news came with a teaser trailer offering just a taste of what’s to come. “Your rivals await to drag you back into the ultimate challenge! Thrilling races that unfold on the Tokyo Expressway, a return to the Tokyo Xtreme Racer roots,” reads the official description.

The game will take players into a sealed-off future Tokyo, featuring highly detailed recreations of real cars and parts as well as courses, along with vehicle customisation options to make individual rides truly unique.

Slated for release in 2025, this latest entry promises to reignite the spirit of the series, known as Shutoko Battle in Japan, which first hit the streets with Shutoko Battle ’94 on the Super Famicom. With legendary titles like Tokyo Xtreme Racer for Dreamcast and Import Tuner Challenge for Xbox 360 in its rearview mirror, the series has a rich history of delivering intense, high-speed duels.

Genki has assured fans that more details are coming soon, so keep your eyes peeled and your engines running. Meanwhile, you can head over to the game’s Steam store page to start planning your return to the Tokyo Expressway.
