There may be a lot of heroes out there, but the Toxic Avenger will bring a different brand of energy and justice to theatres. The black comedy splatter reboot of the 1984 original has dropped a sneak peek introducing Miss Meat, a burger joint invaded by armed political extremists, with the titular character making a grand entrance.
Be warned, though — things get violent quickly. As they start to take everyone hostage, he swipes one of them across the jaw with his radioactive mop, knocking it off cleanly and setting the stage for more revoluting and offensive scenes to come (some might even consider them NSFW, or not safe for work, content).
Believe it or not, the upcoming film appears to be more digestible than the original, but Lloyd Kaufman, who served as producer on the latter, spoke highly of new director Macon Blair: “If they let Macon Blair direct it, I think it will be terrific. He knows the Troma sense of humour, the combination of slapstick, and satire with the environmental theme.”
“Set in a fantasy world following janitor Winston Gooze who, after a freak accident, transforms into a mutant vigilante known as Toxie. Armed with his mop, the unlikely hero battles freaks, gangsters and corrupt CEOs while trying to save his relationship with his son,” reads the synopsis for the upcoming film.

Toxic Avenger will employ practical gore effects, with the period set “a little bit of both” in the past and present. Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones) leads the cast as Winston Gooze / The Toxic Avenger, joining the likes of Jacob Tremblay (Wade Gooze), Taylour Paige (J.J. Doherty), Kevin Bacon (Bob Garbinger), Elijah Wood (Fritz Garbinger), Sarah Niles (Mayor Togar), Julia Davis (Kissy Sturnevan), and more.
The movie hits theatres in August 2025.
