The Seven Deadly Sins Confirmed To Be Appearing In Shazam!

A new trailer for Shazam! recently dropped and while it shows Zachary Levi in action as the titular hero, it also gave fans a glimpse at a villainous group that will be making their first appearances in the DC Cinematic Universe – the Seven Deadly Sins.

The Seven Deadly Sins, otherwise known as the Seven Deadly Enemies of Men, are a team of demons who are based off classic mortal sins of the Judeo-Christian religion: Envy, Gluttony, Sloth, Lust, Greed, Pride, and Wrath.

The appearance of this villainous group would not have been a surprise to those who have been keeping up with news regarding Shazam! as in September 2017, Omega Underground uncovered audition tapes for the movie which hinted that the demons would pop up in the movie.

The recording, which has since been removed, showed actors who were auditioning for the role of Billy Batson. The part they had to read involved Batson meeting with the wizard Shazam for the very first time.

The wizard then reveals to Batson that the rest of his council were destroyed by the Seven Deadly Sins and that was why he is looking for someone worthy to save the human race from the Sins and their deadly influence.

However that does not mean that this scene will make the final cut as films often undergo heavy edits before it is released. Scenes are also sometimes written exclusively for auditions.

Just in case anyone missed the Seven Deadly Sins’ appearances while watching the trailer, Shazam’s director David F. Sandberg took to Instagram to post a still image from the teaser, showing a cavernous underground hall with interesting looking figures lining the wall.

The Seven Deadly Sins made their first appearance in 1940’s Whiz Comic #2, alongside Shazam (who was known as Captain Marvel back then), and Dr Sivana (Shazam’s main antagonist for the 2019 film).

Shazam! stars Zachary Levi as the titular hero and will arrive in theatres on April 5 2019.
