TGS 2024: Sega / Atlus Highlights And Booth Tour!

For gaming enthusiasts in Japan and around the world, the end of September heralds feverish excitement for upcoming and recently-released titles – AAA heavyweights and indie picks alike. Sega, a long-standing giant and respected veteran in the industry, has always been a mainstay of Tokyo Game Show (TGS), and the 2024 iteration is no different.

Taking place from 26 to 29 September, this year’s event continues to honour tradition with the same format and venue. Makuhari Messe will open its doors to the public over the weekend after wrapping up the business days, offering access to demo corners, mascot appearances, special stage performances, large-scale installments, and more.

Leading the charge for Sega at TGS 2024 are Metaphor: ReFantazio, the highly-anticipated RPG from Persona series maker Atlus, Sonic X Shadow Generations, and Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, with plenty of fanfare to go around. The booth sprawls across the show floor, featuring a supersized Shadow the Hedgehog that stands proud and tall among the crowd. Swing by at the right time, and visitors will be able to catch mascots of the whole gang, including Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy Rose, in action.

Following in the vein of scene-stealing side characters, Majima Goro gets to shine as a pirate aboard an elaborate ship setup. The Mad Dog of Shimano replaces series regular Kazuma Kiryu in the upcoming Like a Dragon outing – centring around swashbuckling and sailing the high seas –and cuts a dashing figure with his pirate look. Likewise, there are guest appearances scheduled at specific timings, includingYakuza VTuber and streamer Kson, who made her debut in Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name.

The hype isn’t confined to popular or existing IPs. Over at the Metaphor Re:Fantazio booth, a magnificent statue of the Seeker Archetype keeps snaking queues company as the game’s stylish and striking visuals adorn the space. It wouldn’t be an Atlus celebration without Persona, though, so fans can look forward to taking Persona 5: The Phantom X for a spin on the show floor.

Both of these titles have dedicated stage time, featuring cosplayer appearances and live performances. Meanwhile, Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii brings a different presentation format, with Sonic X Shadow Generations and Sonic Rumble getting a dedicated slot as well. Each show lasts around 10 to 20 minutes.
