‘Stellar Blade’ Surpasses 1 Million Copies Sold, Lays Out Roadmap For DLC And Sequel

After an impressive debut on the PlayStation 5 that saw more than one million copies sold, Stellar Blade is gearing up for its bright future. Shift Up, the studio behind the action-adventure game, announced the estimated figure in a presentation (via VGC), following its claims in May that it had “exceeded expectations”.

More notably, the number may grow even more in the near future, as a PC version is currently being considered. A “contractual relationship” with presumably PlayStation owner Sony is holding back confirmation, however, so nothing has been cast in stone just yet.

As for future plans this coming year, Shift Up revealed a roadmap in the same presentation that includes a photo mode in August, new outfits for protagonist Eve in October, and a big crossover collaboration at the end of 2024. The studio is also keen to develop a paid DLC and a sequel, but no other details were shared. An official announcement for the latter will likely be a few years away as well, since Stellar Blade only launched in April 2024.

“Our goal was to create an IP with high value to ensure branding in the process of gathering users around the world and building a fanbase rather than maximizing profits,” said director Kim Hyung-Tae. “In this process, we minimised the parts that users might feel uncomfortable with, such as microtransactions, for the sake of brand value, and we plan to reflect these parts in a way that users can understand. However, it will not be immediate.”

While the game has (re)ignited an exhausting amount of culture war controversy upon release, there’s no denying that surpassing the one-million sales milestone is an impressive feat for a new and original title. In it, players take command of Eve as she ventures to save humanity from a relentless war waged by monstrous creatures in a distant future.
