Stardew Valley is and has been a massive hit since it appeared on the scene about two years ago. A game with so much content that kept players coming back for more can only be a good thing.
The last update we had from developers, Chucklefish, was that multiplayer will soon come to Stardew Valley, but it’s been pushed back to Q1 2018 “in order to make room for polish and QA.”
Well, we are definitely in Q1 2018, and lo and behold, actual proof of multiplayer in action!
4-player Stardew Valley LAN party at my house… it's really fun. It still needs some work, but the underlying network code is solid. Being in the same room and yelling at each other about what to do next, or if anyone has any stone, is great fun. Can't wait to share this pic.twitter.com/Sjxyd712BK

A screenshot by the game’s creator, ConcernedApe, we can see a four-player LAN session in progress.
Now a seasoned farmer will be able to tell you that the two houses (one brick, one wooden) side-by-side could easily mean we can be neighbours with our LAN buddies, and that flamingo is something new as well.
Adding to that:
Also, I'm finished with the new content and have shifted all my attention to getting multiplayer ready!

Oh boy! More single-player content and the new multiplayer mode to come, I think I will be heading back to Stardew Valley earlier than I expected!
