Sony Kills ‘Concord’ After Disastrous Debut As Game Goes Offline With Refunds Promised

It seems like Concord was never meant to be, as Sony has announced that it will be taking the game offline less than two weeks after its 23 August launch.

Exclusive to the PlayStation 5 and PC, the online hero shooter released to mixed reviews, but due to its lack of distinction among other popular titles in the genre, it failed to capture much attention, leading to abysmal player counts.

In a Sony blog post, Firewalk Studios game director Ryan Ellis announced that the game would be taken offline on 6 September. “While many qualities of the experience resonated with players, we also recognize that other aspects of the game and our initial launch didn’t land the way we’d intended,” Ellis said. Apart from thanking the players who did buy the game, he explained that taking Concord offline would allow the team to “explore options, including those that will better reach (our) players.” Subsequently, players who purchased the game would be eligible for a full refund.

Reportedly developed over the course of eight years and costing an estimated US$200M, Concord takes its place alongside titles like Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and Babylon’s Fall as high-profile game launches that were simply dead on arrival.
