‘Silent Hill 2’ Remake Developer Bloober Tackles ‘Layers of Fear 3’ As Next Horror Game

Following a cryptic countdown reveal last month, Bloober Team has unveiled its next title as Layers of Fear 3, the third chapter in its first-person psychological horror series.

As revealed via a special live-action announcement trailer titled “The Sick Rose”, a man is seen reading off William Blake’s The Sick Rose while seated in a room. Along its walls sit various paintings, including one of a young woman and another of a ghoulish being with its mouth sewn shut.

As the man speaks, a figure is seen walking past the creepy painting, and the one featuring the young woman crashes to the ground, to which the man nonchalantly explains that that’s the work of his “little friend” who hasn’t “got the hang of the afterlife yet”. The trailer then ends as the man gives a creepy Valentine’s Day-themed warning to the audience before turning over an hourglass, revealing the Layers of 3 logo and the words “the door won’t stay closed”.

While only a brief teaser with no reveal of any gameplay-related details, Bloober Team surely knows what it is doing by now, having developed both the 2016 original and its 2019 sequel. The Layers of Fear franchise is renowned for providing an immersive first-person psychological horror experience that blends story-driven exploration, environmental puzzles, and tons of jump scares.

Outside of Layers of Fear, Bloober Team is known for its other recent horror hits, including Konami’s 2024 Silent Hill 2 remake and last year’s excellent Cronos: The New Dawn. The studio is also hard at work remaking the first Silent Hill title, cementing its position as the modern-day horror game meastros.
