Secretlab Otto Adjustable Legrest – Review

When it comes to gaming chairs, Singapore’s Secretlab has long established its reputation for being among the best in the business, offering a range that boasts exceptional ergonomic comfort. But for all the different faux leather and softweave covers, there are only so many different ways a chair can be comfortable, so in an effort to enhance the comfort level of users, the company has introduced its latest addition to the already-impressive array – the Secretlab Otto Adjustable Legrest

This means that aside from the reclining chairs, the company has you covered from head to toe, with its memory foam pillow, the recliner add-on, and now, an adjustable and elevated version of its premium foot stool. In essence, the footrest allows you to prop your feet while you’re seated, while the Otto is for when you’re reclining on your chair and don’t want your feet planted on the ground.

With its adjustable height, between 39cm and 47cm, and five inclined settings, at 0, 7.5, 15, 22.5, and 30 degrees, the legrest is easy to adjust, with several positioning options available, allowing users to find the optimum configuration to place their feet. Unlike its predecessor, the Ergonomic Recliner Add-on, which had to be attached to a Secretlab chair, the Otto is a separate stand that is placed a distance away from your chair, so there’s no concern whether you’re a short teen, average adult or lanky male looking to put your feet up. You can even pull it close to rest your calves when sitting upright, in a slightly reclined position, or even use it as a footrest when reclined fully. This also means it can be used as an accessory for any chair, and not necessarily to accompany a Secretlab chair.

While the configurations of the legrest’s positions are not as ‘infinite’ as it is touted to be, it certainly provides ample adjustments for users to customise their experiences, based on the height of their chair and the angle at which they’re positioning themselves. Unlike an adjustable business class seat on a national carrier,  this can take a couple of rounds of manual adjustments to find that sweet spot, but it does accord users total flexibility in the way they wish to lounge on their chairs.

With a velour exterior that is velvety soft to the touch, the adjustable ottoman is built with the company’s PlushCell memory foam cushioning, which, in essence, provides a luxurious cushion to rest your legs. At just 7.6kg and a height of 37cm at its lowest point, the X-shaped legs anchor the legrest in place, offering reliable stability and allowing it to be moved easily.

Out of the box, setting up the Otto is a straightforward affair, as it comes with a user manual and toolkit that includes a magnetic screwdriver with reversible screwdriver heads to facilitate all the necessary installation screews. And because it’s a simple unit, the process takes less than 10 minutes.

The only obstacle that may prove to be confusing or challenging would be the red pin on the underside, locking it into the flat configuration in which it arrives when removed from the box. The red pin has to be removed from the legrest for the cushioned portion to unfold upwards and click into place at its lowest adjustment angle of 0°. Once removed, the red pin does not appear to fit back into its original position in the legrest and instead should be stowed away. While this is not a problem, it did prove to be a confusing element in the setup process that users should note.

And while it is comfortable, its size presents a space conundrum as it forces users to ensure they have sufficient space under their desk to store it. And because it’s meant to rest your feet while in recline position, you need that real estate to line the chair and ottoman nicely.

Oh, and while the X-shaped legs are intended to allow the unit to be placed as close to a Secretlab chair with its five-pronged wheelbase, you have to ensure both base structures are in alignment to slide one into the other.

Still, these are all minor inconveniences that are offset by the ergonomic comfort that the Otto provides. Priced at US$299 or S$329, if you’re willing to fork out the cash for this relatively pricey addition to your setup, Secretlab Otto Adjustable Legrest is definitively the foot accessory you never knew you needed to lounge, recline, or sit upright in comfort, all day long.
