Samsung Galaxy Ring Frees Your Wrist & Shrinks Health Tracking Features To Your Finger

At the Galaxy Unpacked event in Paris, France, Samsung introduced the Galaxy Ring, marking the company’s first venture into the smart ring market. This innovative device is designed to integrate seamlessly with Samsung’s existing range of smartphones and wearables, enhancing its health-tracking capabilities to compete directly with Apple’s offerings in this space.

The Galaxy Ring is a lightweight accessory equipped with advanced sensors for round-the-clock health monitoring. This launch comes at a crucial time when smartphone sales are beginning to recover, yet consumers are retaining their devices longer. Samsung aims to complement its smartphones and smartwatches with the Galaxy Ring, potentially boosting sales across its product lineup.

Samsung’s strategic move into health applications reflects growing consumer interest in personal wellness technologies. By pairing the Galaxy Ring with Samsung smartwatches and smartphones, the company intends to provide a comprehensive overview of the user’s health metrics, leveraging artificial intelligence for deeper insights.

Key Features and Pricing of the Galaxy Ring:

  • Sleep Monitoring: The Galaxy Ring tracks various sleep metrics, including movement, sleep latency, heart and respiratory rates, and overall sleep quality.
  • Menstrual Cycle Tracking: Utilising skin temperature data, the ring helps monitor menstrual cycles.
  • Heart Rate Monitoring: The device alerts users to abnormal heart rates and allows real-time monitoring.
  • Exercise Detection: It can identify the type of physical activity or workout the user is engaged in.

The Galaxy Ring, which weighs between 2.3 to 3 grammes depending on the size, is available in three colour options: Titanium Black, Titanium Silver, and Titanium Gold. It features a battery life of up to seven days and comes with a portable charging case similar to those used for wireless earbuds.

Set to hit stores on 24 July, yet sadly not available in Singapore, the Samsung Galaxy Ring is priced at US$399.99 and is available to purchase on the Samsung website. This new addition to Samsung’s product line not only expands its hardware ecosystem but also enhances its competitive edge in the health technology market.
