Ubisoft is celebrating the success of its side-scrolling platformer, 2024’s Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, which has surpassed the 2 million player milestone, hinting that there’s more from the franchise to come.
“Well over 2M players by now. You’ve revived the legend,” read a post from Ubisoft’s official social media channel for the franchise, “The Prince is back, and believe us — he’s just warming up.” This new milestone follows one set in February this year, where it was reported to have sold 1.3 million units in its first year, seemingly due to its inclusion on the PS Plus and Ubisoft+ subscription services, alongside a mobile release in April.

Despite what seemed to be a respectable figure for a smaller title, sales did not meet the studio’s internal targets, leading to its development team being disbanded to “other projects that will benefit from their expertise”, crushing hopes for a sequel to the otherwise critically acclaimed title.
Still, Ubisoft’s post does allude to more Prince of Persia titles on the horizon, which is good news considering the franchise hasn’t had a mainline title in more than a decade since 2010’s Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands.

While the studio did not specify which title is in the works, the comments might refer to its 2024 roguelike 2D platformer, The Rogue Prince of Persia, which is currently in early access and is bound to receive more substantial updates leading to its full release.
Ubisoft could also be referring to its other Prince of Persia project, the troubled Sands of Time remake that has been in development since 2020 and struck by several delays, which culminated in a change of developers from Ubisoft Pune and Mumbai to Ubisoft Montreal. The game received an update last year with a new targeted release window of 2026, so perhaps fans can finally expect to see more from the remake, and hopefully, this time it will look better than its awful debut trailer.
