PlayStation 5 Console Revealed Together With Horizon: Forbidden West, Spider-Man: Miles Morales & More!

It’s about time we finally learned more about the PlayStation 5, and Sony has certainly got much to prove following Microsoft’s marketing blitz. Suffice to say, this morning’s PS5 reveal event definitely brought the big guns. Here’s all that you missed at the PlayStation 5 reveal event!


Console Reveal

The PS5 is here in the flesh for the first time ever. At launch, there will be two options: a PlayStation 5 console with an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive and a PlayStation 5 Digital Edition without a disc drive.

The PS5 gameplay experience will be the same, so the choice is all yours. While there are some slight differences in the look of each model, for the overall design, this is a console that’s bold, stunning, and unlike any previous generation of PlayStation.

Horizon: Forbidden West

Horizon: Forbidden West continues Aloy’s story as she moves west to a far-future America to brave a majestic, but dangerous frontier where she’ll face awe-inspiring machines and mysterious new threats. Coming to PlayStation 5.

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales

Talk about blowing expectations out of the water. Miles Morales takes over the mantle of being a hero as we get a confirmation of Insomniac Games’ Marvel’s Spider-Man: Mile Morales, coming Holiday 2020 for the PS5.

Resident Evil Village

Capcom is back with the creeps, as we finally get our first look at the next Resident Evil. As the rumours suggested, we are indeed headed to snowy mountains and facing the occult powers of witches and monsters in Resident Evil 8. Coming 2021.

Gran Turismo 7

The granddaddy of driving sims is also making the PS5 its new home. Everything looks even better than you would expect, just like how all driving games are meant to make the next-gen look good. Gran Turismo 7 also showed off some gameplay of driving in the cockpit view, and it definitely looks and feels more immersive than ever before from Polyphony Digital.

NBA 2K21

We get the first teaser of the next-gen outing of 2K Games’ beloved basketball sim. NBA 2K21 is built from the ground up for PS5. Get ready for next-gen graphics, load times, and power in Fall 2020.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart

Yes, the lovable pair of Ratchet and Clank are back! Featuring dimensional high jinks, the colourful and stylised graphics of the mascot platformer certainly pops even more as we see our heroes go through several dimensions and worlds. Insomniac Games are certainly making waves, with dimension-travel possibilities, more amazing weapons, ray tracing, and a female Ratchet!

Demon’s Souls

From JAPAN Studio and Bluepoint Games comes a remake of the PlayStation classic, Demon’s Souls. This remake invites players to experience the original brutal challenge, completely rebuilt from the ground up and masterfully enhanced with a new “Fractured Mode.”

In addition to beautiful shadow effects and ray tracing, players can choose between two graphics modes while playing: one focused on fidelity, and one focused on frame rate.

Deathloop

The island of Blackreef. For most of its inhabitants, it’s a paradise. But for Colt, it’s an inescapable prison. Thanks to a mysterious timeloop, he’s reliving the same day, over and over, trying to find a way to break the endless cycle he’s trapped in. As Colt, you’ll have to take out eight targets – including your arch-nemesis Julianna Blake – if you ever want to escape. But remember: It’s a timeloop, so if at first you don’t succeed… die, die again.

Sackboy A Big Adventure

The extremely cute Sackboy is back with his own game, taking on new journeys with Sackboy A Big Adventure. An all-new 3D adventure awaits with a deeply immersive and expressive control scheme. Players can go on this epic platforming journey solo-style, or they can team up with friends for collaborative, chaotic multiplayer fun

Project Athia

Square Enix and Luminous Productions also showed off their PS5 debut project, with a look at a magical adventure in Project Athia, which is being designed exclusively for the PlayStation 5. A culmination of Luminous Productions’ philosophy to create a completely new and fresh gaming experience that fuse together the latest technologies with art.

Stray

Annapurna revealed their take on their own dystopian future, where robotic humanoids go about their daily lives, while we explore the city as a stray cat? This mysterious adventure will arrive in 2021, and more information will surely be shared soon enough.

Returnal

Housemarque may be done with arcade games, but they are not done with PlayStation. Returnal combines side-scrolling action with roguelike gameplay into a third-person shooter. Switch instinctively between firing modes by using a single adaptive trigger and get right back into the action after dying. PS5’s immersive 3D audio brings the alien world to life around the player, helping players navigate the intense positional combat.

Grand Theft Auto V

Yep, Rockstar is back to take more of your money, expanded and enhanced. However, all PS5 owners will be getting GTA Online for free, at launch, in 2021 when GTA V launches on the next generation. Even better, all current GTA V PS4 owners will get $1 million in GTA cash every month till the next-gen version arrives.

Destruction AllStars

A game developed by Lucid, this feels like a modern take onTwisted Metal that combines vehicular destruction with some third-person action thrown in for good measure. Destruction AllStars is an action-packed sports event that pits drivers against one another in an intense competition. The goal? Wreck as many cars as possible.

Kena: Bridge of Spirits

A heartwarming creation by Ember Lab, this seems more like a animated movie than a game. A story-driven action adventure with a stunning visual aesthetic combining exploration with fast-paced combat. Players find and grow a team of charming spirit companions called the Rot, enhancing their abilities and creating new ways to manipulate the environment.

Kena: Bridge of Spirits seamlessly blends action and narrative into an unforgettable experience. Travel with Kena, a young Spirit Guide on a quest to uncover the mysterious story surrounding the demise of the village.

Goodbye Volcano High

In more animated goodness, KO_OP presents what looks like another narrative-driven game in Goodbye Volcano High, a cinematic narrative adventure about the end of an era… and the beginning of a love story. Coming 2021 to PS5 & PS4.

Oddworld Soulstorm

Oddworld is back, looking even better than before with the power of the PS5. Oddworld Soulstorm represents a big visual and cinematic leap aiming that breaks new ground for Oddworld. With intelligent new mechanics and twisted new devices which enable highly explosive deviousness. This is a dark parable that tells an epic tale of a volatile society pushed to its limits.

Ghostwire: Tokyo

We finally get to see what Tango Gameworks has been up to in Ghostwire Tokyo. Tokyo has been overrun by deadly supernatural forces after 99% of the city’s population vanished. Use a powerful arsenal of spectral abilities to fight the paranormal threat and unravel the mystery behind the mass disappearance. Face the unknown, discover the truth, and save the city when GhostWire: Tokyo arrives in 2021, exclusively on PlayStation 5.

JETT: The Far Shore

Another artistic creation from the folks over at Superbrothers, JETT: The Far Shore invites you on an interstellar trip to carve out a future for a people haunted by oblivion in this cinematic action adventure coming Holiday 2020 on the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.

Godfall

We get a closer look at what Counterplay Games is bringing to next-gen with Godfall, with its melee-focused looter-slasher. It is definitely plenty of style with combat, enemies, and even armour. Become unstoppable this coming Holiday 2020 in Aperion.

Solar Ash

Bugsnax

From the minds behind Octodad: Dadliest Catch comes Bugsnax, a whimsical adventure game coming to PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 Holiday 2020.

Pragmata

Pragmata showcased some truly amazing visuals as we see an Earth in crisis. Developed by Capcom, an outer-space adventure awaits in 2022.


Sony has certainly put out an amazing showcase that will take some true greatness on Microsoft’s part to beat. Come this Holiday 2020, we are in for a big fight.
