Nintendo is basking in the success of its latest console, as the Switch 2 has broken company records by becoming its fastest-selling console, with more than six million units sold globally in the seven weeks since its launch in the US and the UK on 5 June.

Announcing this milestone via its first financial report since the launch of the Switch 2, Nintendo claims that demand for the console has exceeded supply in certain countries, and that it will “continue to strengthen [its] production and supply systems to deliver as much Nintendo Switch 2 hardware as possible”, noting that demand has “surpassed [its] expectations”.
Even with these numbers, the company is still sticking to its original sales forecast, anticipating the console to sell 15 million units in the current financial year, which will end in March 2026.
In terms of games, Nintendo states that the Switch 2’s software sales have reached 8.67 million units, with the console launch exclusive Mario Kart World marking the majority of these numbers, with 5.63 million units sold, although this figure also includes sales of the game bundled with the console.

Together, its total sales added up to 572.3 billion yen (approximately US$3.8 billion), with operating profit rising 4 per cent to 56.9 billion yen (approximately US$378 million) for the three months after the end of June. It was added that the original Switch also saw continued demand, with the console attaining sales of 153.1 million units to date.
In all, this performance is truly remarkable for the Switch 2, especially considering that it launched with only one major console-exclusive title. To date, it has received another massive console exclusive in the form of Donkey Kong Bananza, and is still due to receive a number of anticipated titles such as Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection and Octopath Traveler 0, which were announced via a recent Direct showcase, alongside big hitters such as Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and FromSoftware’s The Duskbloods.
