Dungeons & Dragons is a thrilling adventure that includes imagination, rulebooks, beautiful art, storytelling and an expanded world. Now, with One D&D, it is not only easier, it is more immersive.
One D&D is the next generation of Dungeons & Dragons that brings together updated rules, backwards compatible with 5th Edition, D&D Beyond and an early-in-development D&D digital play experience.
This new initiative has three pillars, the first pillar being an updated ruleset based off the 5th edition. What that means is that all the adventures and supplements that have been released in the past ten years will still be playable with the new evolution of D&D.
The second pillar is D&D Beyond, the base for digital tools and assistance for players and Dungeon Masters. D&D Beyond, as many players know by now, is where players can access the basic rules of the game, create characters for free, and more. It also has digitised versions of the official sourcebooks and adventures for D&D.
The final pillar, one that is still in development, is a full digital playspace that gives players a more immersive experience. At the core, players can play a game, roll some dice and move the miniatures around in a 3D playspace.
With this new digital experience of the popular tabletop game, players have more minis and more options for character customisation. Players can also change the features and do what they want with the miniature they’ve chosen. And when that’s done, players can use these miniatures to tell stories just as one would with digital tabletops.
Hopefully, the virtual dice is not laggy like its present form and will move the game long quicker.
Starting August, D&D fans can look forward to a steady release of One D&D playtest packages where fans can engage with key aspects of the game, provide feedback and essentially, shape the future of D&D.
