Multiple ‘Assassin’s Creed’ Remakes In The Works At Ubisoft

The beloved and long-running Assassin’s Creed series is taking a leap of faith into remake territory. Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has confirmed plans to release new games in the franchise “more regularly” in the future, which will include remakes of the older titles.

In an interview published on the Ubisoft website, the studio head discussed the company’s upcoming future and told players to get excited for “some remakes”. There are no hints on which Assassin’s Creed stories will be covered, however.

“Firstly, players can be excited about some remakes, which will allow us to revisit some of the games we’ve created in the past and modernise them,” said Guillemot. “There are worlds in some of our older Assassin’s Creed games that are still extremely rich.”

“Secondly, to answer your question, there will be plenty of experience variety. The goal is to have Assassin’s Creed games come out more regularly, but not for it to be the same experience every year. There are a lot of good things to come, including Assassin’s Creed Hexe, which we’ve announced, which is going to be a very different game from Assassin’s Creed Shadows. We’re going to surprise people, I think,” he added.

The announcement aligns with a Kotaku report in June 2023 claiming Skull and Bones studio Ubisoft Singapore was “heavily involved” in an Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag remake. While the news hasn’t been made official, it does sound plausible — the fourth mainline game has established a reputation as a fan-favourite, after all.

Regardless, there are plenty of works for Ubisoft to tap into. The Ezio trilogy (and later, the Ezio Collection), comprising Assassin’s Creed 2, Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, and Assassin’s Creed: Revelations remains an all-time crowd darling, though it’d also make sense to go all the way back to the original 2007 title featuring Altaïr.

Through its ups and downs, the franchise marked a return to its roots with Assassin’s Creed: Mirage last year after multiple attempts at freshening up the formula. Assassin’s Creed Shadows will be the next mainline entry, transporting fans to feudal Japan this November with dual protagonists and versatile gameplay. Hexe, first announced in 2022, is set to follow with a targeted 2026 release.
