Chinese Developer MiHoYo has announced its plans to end support for its action RPG Genshin Impact on the PlayStation 4, with the game being delisted from the platform from 10 October 2025 and gradually ceasing all update support in the following months.

Announced via a blog post, the developer stated that it will be ending support for the title on the ageing console due to “limitations related to hardware performance and platform application size”, outlining that the game will be discontinued on the PS4 over three phases.
Starting on 10 October, the game will be removed from the PlayStation Store on the console, meaning that accounts which have yet to download the game on the PS4 will no longer be able to search for it or download it on the store. However, those who currently have the game in their library will still be able to re-download it at any time, with owners also still being able to download microtransactions like items and top-ups through the in-game shop and in the PS4 store.

From 25 February 2026, all in-game purchases for Genshin Impact on PS4 will be removed from both the store and the in-game app, although any items purchased prior to the date but not yet claimed can still be done so after logging in.
Finally, starting from 8 April 2026, MiHoYo will completely cease all update support for the title, meaning that players will no longer be able to log into the game on the PS4, and that all copies of the game on the console will stop receiving further updates. Any purchased items yet to be claimed following this date can only be done so by logging into the game on the PS5.
The PS5 version of Genshin Impact will be unaffected by this development, and the game will offer ways to assist players in console migration with a prompt detailing the steps to bind their accounts to other login methods for easier management appearing periodically on the game interface for PS4 players accessing the game prior to its discontinuation.

It’s been a good run for Genshin Impact on the PS4, with the game first releasing for the platform in 2020 before heading to current-generation consoles in the years after. It seems the game has simply gotten too big and demanding for the ageing console after years of content updates, making it increasingly difficult for the developer to keep optimising it after every new patch. Despite its discontinuation on the PS4, Genshin Impact will still be available on the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Android and iOS.
