Acclaimed video game designer Hideo Kojima has revealed more insight into his upcoming Metal Gear spiritual successor, Physint, stating that the title is still in its early stages of development and that he is working on it all by himself, at least for now.
Speaking during an interview with Indiewire, Kojima revealed that the title is currently in its conceptual stage, which explains why he is handling all of the work at this point. Physint was announced to be in the works for PlayStation in January last year, described as a “next-generation action espionage game” due for development after the release of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach.
When asked what he was working on now that Death Stranding 2 is out, Kojima explained that he still remains focused on the game, explaining that he is “checking the data of the players all over the world — what kind of weapons they’re using, the routes they’re taking, all this data,” alongside catching and fixing bugs.

“I am also starting to work with the team on OD (the upcoming Xbox horror game co-written with Jordan Peele) because that’s a new project,” he continued, “and also doing Physint all by myself because that’s at the conceptual stage”.
Still, it seems like Physint is still quite a ways off, with Kojima previously claiming during an interview with French magazine Le Film Français earlier this year that the title would take him another “five or six years”. The game was described by Kojima as a culmination of his work thus far, saying that it was not only an interactive game, but a movie at the same time, which follows in the same trend as his recent Death Stranding titles. According to an episode of his HideoTube web series, he was inspired to develop Physint after recovering from illness during the COVID pandemic, making him “change priorities” and respond to fan requests for another Metal-Gear-styled title.
