Lenovo Powers Up AI PC Range With Snapdragon X Plus, Intel Core Ultra Chip Upgrades & More

Speed and performance has always been at the forefront of AI-powered devices, but recent development continues to raise the bar with upgraded hardware and software prowess. In the case of Lenovo, a slew of souped-up laptops is set to power both business and creative users — and in more ways than one.

Lenovo Aura Edition Laptop

Unveiled at Lenovo Innovation World 2024 held in Berlin, Germany, the offerings span the company’s ThinkPad, ThinkBook, Yoga and IdeaPad series, driven by a multiple partnerships between the tech giant, Intel, Qualcomm, and AMD. The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 13 and Yoga Slim 7i, for starters, have both landed a new Aura Edition iteration, boasting four personalised Smart Mode features and an Intel Core Ultra 7 processor.

Meanwhile, the ThinkBook 16 Gen 7 comes equipped with Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon X Plus 8-core processors. The chip accelerates productivity with local AI processing and specialised hardware cores for AI tasks and camera image signal processing.

The laptop also touts a 16-inch WQXGA IPS display, a 60Hz refresh rate, and a 2.5K resolution (2,560 x 1,440), alongside a 84Whr battery capacity. For those seeking an alternative, the ThinkBook 16 Gen 7+ packs the AMD Ryzen AI 9 365 processor and an integrated AMD Radeon 880M graphics card. Users can expect a 3.2K IPS display (3,200 x 2,000) and a 165Hz refresh rate, with battery capacity remaining the same at 84Whr.

The Snapdragon X Plus prowess extends to the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 5x and the IdeaPad 5x 2-in-1 as well. Both are outfitted with a Qualcomm Hexagon NPU, an integrated Adreno GPU, and a 14-inch WUXGA OLED touch display (1,920 x 1,200) with a 60Hz refresh rate, as well as Copilot+ support when available. The main distinction here is that they take the form of a traditional clamshell laptop and a convertible, respectively.

Unlike its siblings, the IdeaPad Slim 5 lineup runs an AMD Ryzen 7000 Series processor and a Radeon GPU configuration. Both the 13- and 15-inch LCD screen options are available, offering WUXGA resolution and a 60Hz refresh rate, plus an upgrade to a 2.5K OLED panel for the latter.

The Lenovo Yoga Pro 7, too, taps into the AI reserves of AMD. Tailored for creative workflows, it pairs the Ryzen AI 365 processor with a Radeon 780M graphics card, sporting a 14.5-inch PureSight Pro OLED display that promises 2.8K resolution (2,880 x 1,800) and a 120Hz refresh rate.

Additionally, the Lenovo Creator Zone, an on-device app that uses natural language processing to generate and edit image, is included out of the box, granting access to the following capabilities:

  • Text-to-Image: Type a text description of the desired image, hit enter, and four images will be generated based on the supplied text description.
  • Sketch-to-Image: Sketching an image directly into Lenovo Creator Zone and providing a short text description generates four images that illustrate that combined description.
  • Image-to-Image: Provide a reference image along with a supporting text description to generate four images based off that combined input.
  • Advance Image Editing: Robust image editing tools allow users to modify generated images seamlessly, including background changes, image merging, color adjustments, and more.

Rounding out the list is the ThinkPad T14s Gen 6 AMD, previously available in Intel outfits. This latest alternative comes decked out in a Ryzen AI Pro processor and an integrated AMD Radeon GPU, featuring a 14-inch IPS display with WUXGA resolution and a 58Whr battery capacity.

In addition to the above, Lenovo Innovation World 2024 event also saw the debut of its Auto Twist AI PC prototype. Sporting an Intel H Series Core Ultra 7 processor and a 13.3-inch WQXGA+ OLED display (2,880 x 1,880), it adapts to multiple scenarios with Dual Degree of Freedom automatic rotation that goes up to 180 degrees vertically, and 270 degrees horizontally.
