‘Jurassic World Rebirth’ Finds Its Way To US$750 Million Box Office As ‘F1’ Marks Brad Pitt’s Highest-Grossing Movie

Universal’s dinosaur epic Jurassic World Rebirth continues to roar at the box office, surpassing the US$750 million sales milestone after five weekends. Meanwhile, F1 is maintaining its eighth gear by grossing over US$545 million globally over six weekends.

The Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Bailey-led dino adventure has now grossed US$766 million globally, making it one of three movies to clear the US$750 million mark this year, joining the likes of Disney’s Lilo & Stitch, which grossed US$1 billion, and Warner Bros.’ A Minecraft Movie, which garnered US$955 million. With these figures, Jurassic World Rebirth is stomping ever closer to the heights of the previous Chris Pratt-led trilogy, with the three films each grossing US$1 billion globally.

Warner Bros. and Apple’s F1 is aiming for a pole position, too, with its over US$545 million gross making it lead actor Brad Pitt’s highest-grossing film in history, which surpasses the previous holder of that record, 2013’s World War Z, which grossed US$540 million globally, although this doesn’t take inflation into account. The racing flick is also Apple’s largest theatrical film ever, easily overtaking Napoleon’s (2023) US$221 million and Killers of the Flower Moon’s (2023) US$158 million.

Directed by Gareth Edwards (The Creator, Godzilla), the fourth instalment in the Jurassic World franchise stars Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow) as covert operator Zora Bennett, Jonathan Bailey (Bridgerton) as palaeontologist Dr. Henry Loomis, and Mahershala Ali (Moonlight) as Zora’s team leader Duncan Kincaid as the trio travels to a former island research facility with the goal of extracting samples from the three largest prehistoric animals that are vital for a heart disease treatment.

Unlike earlier films in the franchise, Jurassic World Rebirth is no longer constrained to a singular park or locale, and is instead set on a massive island and its surrounding waters, providing ample opportunities for its heroes to discover all sorts of dangerous beasts, including facing off with the biggest and baddest of them all, the Distortus Rex (better known as the D-Rex).

In other box office news, James Gunn’s Superman also crossed a notable milestone with a US$550 million global haul, while Marvel’s big hitter The Fantastic Four: First Steps has grossed US$368.7 million worldwide over two weekends. Newcomers are also making their mark, with DreamWorks’ heist comedy The Bad Guys 2 off to a good start with a global gross of US$44.5 million, while Paramount’s The Naked Gun reboot has garnered US$28.5 million.
