Jason Statham Set For ‘The Beekeeper’ Sequel With ‘Nobody 2’ Director

Every time Jason Statham bursts through the silver screen with an action movie, fans of the genre will love it. His latest outing The Beekeeper is no exception, breaking global box office records at over US$122.5 million. This action thriller was such a hit that a sequel, The Beekeeper 2, is on the way.

Replacing David Ayer on The Beekeeper 2’s director’s chair is Timo Tjahjanto (The Big 4, V/H/S/94), who is currently working on Nobody 2. Kurt Wimmer (Expend4bles) is returning as the screenwriter for the film. According to Deadline, Statham and Chris Long will produce the film through Punch Palace Productions and Long Shot Productions respectively. Miramax will also produce and finance the film, with its production set for fall this year. At the moment, Amazon/MGM Studios is being considered to release the sequel in North America.

For the uninitiated, the first movie follows a retired secret intelligence operative (Statham) under the organisation known as the Beekeepers who goes on a revenge spree after his landlady lost millions from a phishing scam and, eventually, her life.

Little has been revealed on the premise of The Beekeeper 2, but we all know that as long as Jason Statham is a spy on an action-thriller plot, bullets will fly.
