James Gunn’s ‘Superman’ Officially Wraps Filming

James Gunn recently celebrated the completion of filming for the much-anticipated Superman, set to revitalise the iconic superhero in the DC Universe. Gunn expressed his deep gratitude for his team’s dedication through a heartfelt message on social media, marking the end of principal photography for this DC Studios feature.

In his Instagram post, Gunn reflected on the project: “And that’s a wrap. God bless our cast and crew whose commitment, creativity, and hard work have brought this project to life. I set out to make a movie about a good man in a world that isn’t always so much. And the goodness and kindness and love I’ve encountered on a daily basis on the set has inspired me and thrust me forward when I felt too spent to move on my own.”

He continued to share his appreciation, noting, “Thank you all from the bottom of my heart. It has been an honor. The destination has been Superman, but the journey has been the toil and the laughter and the emotions and ideas and magic we’ve shared together on set – and for that I am forever grateful. ❤️”

The film, which started shooting in the snowy landscapes of Svalbard, Norway, features David Corenswet as Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. The ensemble cast also includes Isabela Merced (Hawkgirl), Skyler Gisondo (Jimmy Olsen), Sara Sampaio (Eve Teschmacher), Edi Gathegi (Mister Terrific), Anthony Carrigan (Metamorpho), Nathan Fillion (Green Lantern), and María Gabriela de Faría (The Engineer).

Superman is pivotal as it marks the first depiction of the character since Henry Cavill’s portrayal, beginning with Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel in 2013. Gunn’s film is the inaugural project under the guidance of DC Studios chiefs Gunn and Peter Safran, setting the stage for a renewed DC cinematic landscape.

The plot of Superman remains largely undisclosed, but Gunn has hinted that the film will explore the theme of maintaining integrity in a flawed world. This narrative will underscore Superman’s challenges in a society where his intrinsic goodness might not always be embraced, especially against foes like Lex Luthor.

As post-production gets underway, anticipation builds for the film’s first trailer. Gunn’s vision promises a fresh take on Superman’s legacy. This reboot aims to lay a solid foundation for future DC Universe stories, promising a deep and introspective look at one of its most revered figures.

Superman is scheduled for release on 11 July 2025, just around the same time as Marvel’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps which will open in cinemas on 25 July 2025, signalling a big summer for superhero cinema fans.
