Google Pixel 9 Pro XL Gaming Test — Zenless Zone Zero, Honkai: Star Rail, COD: Warzone Mobile & PUBG

The big G has gone even bigger with the Google Pixel 9 Pro XL, marking the first time that a second upsized offering is available in the lineup. Announced earlier this month, the device joins its other two siblings in getting the Tensor G4 chip upgrade, designed to boost performance of everyday use cases like opening apps or web browsing.

The proprietary hardware is paired with a 6.8-inch OLED display with a 1,344 x 2,992 resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate, promising smooth, sharp visuals and increased screen real estate for both work and play. In the latter case, taking it out for a spin with Zenless Zone Zero, Honkai: Star Rail, Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile, and PUBG Mobile yielded an enjoyable experience — so long as the graphical settings are dialed back.

Indeed, the Google Pixel 9 Pro XL doesn’t exactly offer best-in-class performance when gaming at the highest settings. However, battery efficiency certainly surpasses expectations, packing enough oomph to power through extended sessions across all four titles. Thermal management is also a cut above average, as noted in our gaming test.

The Google Pixel 9 Pro XL is available on-shelf and on the official website starting 22 August, with pre-orders now open. It starts from S$1,739 for 16GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, and will come in four colours: Obsidian, Porcelain, Hazel, and Rose Quartz. Those seeking a smaller phone or more wallet-friendly option can turn to the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro, priced from S$1,199 and S$1,459 respectively. While the base model is also due out on 22 August, the latter is only releasing in September.
