‘Genshin Impact’ Drops Tighnari’s English Voice Actor Elliot Gindi Amidst Sexual Harassment Scandal

Genshin Impact has officially terminated all ties with Elliot Gindi, the English voice actor of Tighnari, after “a breach of contract”, announced developer HoYoverse on 16 February. Discussions to recast the Dendro element character are currently underway.

This comes after allegations of sexual harassment towards minors, as well as abusive and offensive behavior, were revealed just a week ago. FretCore, the moderator of Gindi’s Discord server, came forward with evidence that exposed his actions in a 21-page document. Victims of Gindi’s harassment have also spoken up against the former voice actor.

Gindi has admitted to the allegations in a TwitLonger post and has since logged out of Twitter.

On Twitter, Genshin Impact voice actors rallied behind the victims of Gindi’s harassment and cut off their association with him long before the announcement was made. Popular streamers also weighed in on the issue, condemning Gindi’s actions and petitioning for HoYoverse to find a new voice actor for Tighnari.

Zach Aquilar, the English voice of the Traveller, expressed his anger towards the situation in a tweet, “Disappointed and angry. I have removed the stream with Elliot and will no longer be associating with him.”

“There needs to be consequences for his actions. There needs to be support for the victims,” tweeted Brianna Knickerbocker, the English voice of Hu Tao.

Voice director of Genshin Impact’s English dub, Chris Faiella, also tweeted his response and promised fans he would “rectify this situation and will absolutely inform the folks at miHoYo,” which seems to have worked, given Gindi’s departure from the game.

The move to recast Tighnari has been met with an outpouring of support from the community, who praised HoYoverse for taking action against Gindi. It remains to be seen if the former voice actor will face legal action.

The developer has reached out to Genshin Impact’s official voice acting agency, and is in the midst of discussions to re-record Tighnari’s existing voicelines, as well as finding a replacement voice actor.

“We will gradually replace Tighnari’s existing in-game voice lines, and issue these updates in the corresponding announcements,” concluded the official Twitter post.
