Comic book giants DC and Marvel are set to bring back a historic crossover between superheroes Spider-Man and Superman in 2026, marking a reunion of the characters after almost 50 years.
Announced via the official DC blog, the collaboration will kick off in January 2026 with a reprint of the classic 1976 comic series, Superman vs. The Amazing Spider-Man: The Battle of the Century, now titled the Treasury Edition, which celebrates the original crossover between the two heroes. This will be followed by DC and Marvel Present: Superman and Spider-Man Treasury Edition #1 in February 2026, which will be a reprint of 1981’s Marvel Treasury Edition #28.
The two reprints will set the stage for a series of brand-new crossovers published by both DC and Marvel, with the former releasing Superman/Spider-Man #1 in March, followed by the latter’s Spider-Man/Superman #1 in April 2026. The two one-shot comics will tell original stories, with their creative teams being announced at a later date.
While no plot details on the two new comics have been revealed, the original comic series saw the two superheroes going head to head before eventually teaming up to face Lex Luthor and Doc Ock, so it’s unclear if the new stories would follow the same plot progression or feature the duo teaming up from the get-go. It also remains to be seen if the comics will bring back the combined version of New York and Metropolis seen in the originals, although according to DC, the comics will “[honour] a shared legacy while inviting fans into a new era of collaboration, creativity, and character-driven storytelling.”
DC and Marvel comics’ historic crossover will run throughout 2026, with the release of Treasury Edition 50th Anniversary of Superman vs. The Amazing Spider-Man #1 on 7 January and DC and Marvel Present: Superman and Spider-Man Treasury Edition #1 on 4 February, followed by Superman/Spider-Man #1 in March and Spider-Man/Superman #1 in April.
